Position Summary
The Elementary School Principal provides instructional leadership, operational oversight, and community stewardship for the PreK-5 elementary school. The principal cultivates a safe, inclusive, and achievement-oriented culture rooted in our values and aligned to our vision and mission.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
Supervise and evaluate elementary instructional staff using culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and data-driven practices.
Lead professional development aligned to curriculum standards and student learning outcomes
Provide leadership in collaboration with the Director of Teaching and Learning in MTSS, literacy/math interventions, and instructional coaching.
Promote a culture of high expectations, equity, and continuous learning.
School Culture & Climate
Build and maintain a school culture rooted in respect, belonging, and student agency
Implement consistent, restorative approaches to behavior and discipline
Be highly visible and accessible throughout the school day
Foster staff collaboration and morale through transparent communication and leadership
Family & Community Engagement
Proactively communicate with families to build trust and shared ownership of student success.
Partner with caregivers and community-based organizations to support student and family well-being.
Represent SPCS in community events and neighborhood partnerships.
Operational & Administrative Management
Manage daily operations of the elementary school, including schedules, safety, staff coverage, and compliance.
Lead building-level budget planning and resource allocation to support the strategic plan and instructional priorities.
Ensure timely completion of state and district reporting requirements as needed.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations in urban schools.
Knowledge of elementary standards, curriculum, and instructional practices.
Commitment to equity and closing opportunity gaps.
Training in trauma-informed education, restorative practices, and/or culturally responsive pedagogy preferred.
Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and community partners.
License and Experience
Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a K–5 setting
Previous school leadership experience
Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred
Minnesota School Principal License preferred
Work Environment & Physical Demands
School-based setting with frequent student and staff interaction
Occasional evening and weekend hours for events or family engagement
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and navigate the school campus as needed
