Job Title: Assistant Principal Middle School Employee Group: Principals FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Middle School Principal Job Summary The Middle School Assistant Principal supports a safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environment by leading key systems that promote student achievement and well-being. This role involves overseeing schoolwide operations, supporting staff development, leading student support and discipline through restorative and equity-focused practices, and managing the master schedule and assessment coordination. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. Salary: $104,370 - $163,914 Salary placement is based on education and experience as indicated in the Principal's Collective Bargaining Agreement. Job Functions Leadership & School Culture * Cultivate inclusive, equitable relationships with students, staff, and families to foster a positive school culture. * Implement and monitor systems that support student learning and engagement during transitions, lunch, arrival/dismissal, and other non-classroom settings. * Participate in and lead key school teams (Instructional Leadership Team, Site Solution Team) * Create and support systems for student support (behavior and academic interventions) and assign staff to facilitate. Monitor progress and adjust as needed. * Lead the development and management of the school&#8217;s master schedule, ensuring alignment with instructional priorities, student needs, staffing allocations, and district policies. Collaborate with department leaders, counselors, and district staff to create a schedule that maximizes instructional time and supports equitable access to courses. * Promote and model equity-driven leadership that supports the district&#8217;s strategic plan. Student Support & Discipline * Lead the development of behavior and academic intervention systems. Collaborate with staff providing the interventions to ensure fidelity and effectiveness of interventions for students. * Apply discipline policies consistently; use restorative practices to address harm and support re-entry. * Communicate with families regarding behavior, attendance, and barriers to learning. * Revise and rewrite district and building policy in collaboration with building and district leaders * Monitor discipline data for disparities and implement strategies to eliminate them using the district MTSS model. * Ensure compliance with district policies including documentation and use of racial harm protocol and behavior responses. Staff Supervision & Development * Conduct observations and evaluations of licensed and non-licensed staff using the district adopted tool. * Coordinate the student support team and implementation of the student attendance policy. * Identify and support staff development in collaboration with leadership teams. * Partner with the student support team on threat and risk assessments. Instructional & Operational Support * Lead the creation and management of the school&#8217;s master schedule in alignment with instructional priorities and student needs. * Attend and support PLC and department meetings to promote curriculum alignment and data use. * Serve as School Assessment Coordinator, including training test proctors and ensuring testing integrity. * Coordinate after-school and summer programming. * Oversee safety and security procedures and collaborate with other site leaders. * Coordinate between, collect and utilize appropriate data, and allocate resources for programs and systems of student support MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support), and other programs. Communication & Community Engagement * Maintain effective, confidential communication with staff, families, and community partners. * Share building and district initiatives with instructional and non-instructional staff. * Represent staff, department, and grade-level needs in site and district-level conversations. Other Duties * Comply with all laws, school board policies and school district procedures. * Demonstrate professional, ethical and responsible behavior. * Manage staff, student and building issues when the principal is off site. * Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance * Facilitate and serve on task forces and committees as assigned by the principal * Supervise events outside the school day, including night and weekend supervision, as assigned by the principal * Other duties as assigned by the principal Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Current Minnesota K-12 Principal license or evidence of qualifying for license before employment begins * Master&#8217;s degree (emphasis in Educational Leadership, Organizational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction preferred) * Minimum five years of successful teaching experience * Trained in positive discipline strategies and de-escalation techniques Preference will be given * Current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification * Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of current education and ability to apply them * Student focused with an ability to work with middle school students from all cultural backgrounds * Ability to develop discipline, schedules, and academic support while building relationships with students, staff and the school community * Knowledge or experience of school programs including Catalyst (Formerly Envoy) * Knowledge or experience of restorative practices * Knowledge of state testing requirements * Knowledge, desire to learn and implement best practices in curriculum and instructional practices * Strong computer skills including use of learning management systems, Word, Google Suite, Excel, Outlook and databases * Spanish speaker Physical Requirements * Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to and over 20 pounds.
