JOB SUMMARY
Hopkins Public Schools is a partner with the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools program. Junior Servant Leader Interns are responsible for assisting the Servant Leader Intern in the classroom, providing support and assistance to individual students or small groups to help scholars better understand the content and assist in completing assignments. A Junior Servant Leader Intern also supervises scholars outside the classroom during breakfast, Harambee, lunchtime, field trips, and/or recess. The mission of CDF Freedom Schools programs is to boost student motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem, and connect the needs of scholars and families to the resources of their communities. This program serves scholars in grades K-8 for six weeks.
Junior Servant Leader Interns will work closely with Servant Leader Interns and Site Coordinators to ensure program fidelity. They will utilize the CDF Freedom Schools framework and curriculum, along with an anti-racist lens, to promote a holistic learning environment for every scholar.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Serve as a positive role model for all scholars.
* Support supervision and maintain the safety of scholars.
* Maintain professional decorum.
* Assist in setup, management, and breakdown of classroom space.
* Engage a maximum of 10 scholars per class in the Integrated Reading Curriculum, Harambee, or afternoon enrichment activities.
* Attend all required training sessions.
* Work with site staff to ensure that all program components are implemented with fidelity.
* Support SLIs in gathering materials and engaging young people in athe ctivity.
* Report any issues or concerns regarding program operations to the lead staff (SLIs, Site Coordinators, or Executive Director)
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
* Currently enrolled in high school.
Hours and Compensation:
32 days total.
$16.22 per hour.
