The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our secondary team for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year (May-June) and then the 2025-26 school year as a Security Monitor. The Security Monitor is responsible for the active supervision of students during student contact times (regular school day and/ or out-of-school time programs). Responsible for providing a safe, developmentally appropriate learning/ enrichment environment, manage student behavior, serving as a positive role model, and being a supportive adult.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Work with Deans and/ or Principals to ensure the execution of restorative practices.
* Collaborate with school staff to support whole-school approaches to restorative schools, restorative school discipline, and other aspects of restorative justice for the purpose of improving the outcomes for students.
* Provides active supervision of all students.
* Supervise students to ensure a safe, supportive, culturally responsive, equitable, and welcoming learning environment.
* Establish effective communication with staff, students, and families.
* Interact positively with students and promote school programs.
* Attend and advocate for students in meetings with students and families as needed.
* Reports incidents or trends to building administration.
* Ensure the safety of students, providing supervision in various activities/ locations including, but not limited to breakfast, lunch, hallways, common areas, restrooms, and activities.
* Keeps unwanted visitors out of the building and off grounds.
* Notify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, etc.
* Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and the general community
* Ability to relate and communicate effectively with people of different cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic background
* Demonstrated success working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting cultural inclusiveness
* Skilled in the supervision of students; Ability to assist students by providing patience and understanding
* Ability to be punctual and accountable for responsibilities of the position
* General knowledge of school district operations, expectations, policies processes, and procedures
* General knowledge of the transportation of students
* Knowledge of District Core Values and Mission
* Knowledge of facilitating restorative practice interventions or other types of youth supports
* Knowledge of positive behavior reinforcement techniques.
Working Conditions and Physical Efforts:
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; may be required to wear a facemask or other PPE while working during pandemic outbreaks; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Duty Days: 178 duty days, 8 hours per day paid
Qualifications: High School diploma or GED
Pay and Benefits: $19.72/hour- $24.94/hour DOQ- Benefits based on the contract.
