Position Title: HS Instructional Coach
Reports To: HS Principal
Terms:
Duration: 194 contract days
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Instructional Coach, having classroom management, instructional and content area expertise, will work as a colleague with teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The Instructional Coach will support the implementation of school-wide classroom management and lesson planning support, academic and character education initiatives; and will provide personalized support to enhance the professional growth of individual teachers.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Schoolwide Development:
1. Promote and model the philosophy, mission and vision of Community of Peace Academy.
2. Promote and model a mindset of high academic and character expectations for all students.
3. Other duties as requested in support of ongoing school improvement and parent/community relations.
Teaching & Learning:
1. Support instructional planning and classroom management all general education and specialist content areas
2. Support data analysis and response to data as a means for improving student outcomes
3. Support individual teachers and grade level teams in data-driven instructional decision-making
4. Support individual teachers in communicating effectively with families
5. Communicate and demonstrate effective instructional practices that result in increased student academic and behavioral outcomes
Coaching, Evaluation & Professional Development:
1. Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching and modeling of instruction to teachers in support of school-wide classroom management, academic and character education initiatives.
2. Support the HS Principal in planning, arranging and facilitating the professional development of teachers during PLCs and Staff Development Days.
3. Conduct performance observations and evaluations for Track II teachers
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Mindsets:
1. Three plus years of successful secondary teaching experience, characterized by effective classroom management, a strong classroom culture of respect and rapport, and student achievement data.
2. Valid Minnesota Teaching License (ELA preferred)
3. Knowledge of 9-12 Minnesota Academic Standards across content areas, or ability and willingness to acquire that knowledge.
4. Deep knowledge of and experience with culturally responsive instruction.
5. Leadership skills and a desire for professional advancement, previous coaching/leadership experience preferred.
6. Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for teachers.
7. Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, characterized by:
* The ability to establish positive relationships with teachers and members of the leadership team.
* The ability to galvanize support around common instructional initiatives.
* The ability to establish a positive and supportive culture of professional growth and development.
* The ability to convey clear expectations.
