Position: Special Education Teacher
Location: Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Secondary School
Grade Levels: 6th and 7th grades
Primary Focus: Students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and Other Health Disabilities (OHD)
Caseload: Average of 16 students
Responsibilities:
– Provide specialized instruction tailored to meet the academic needs of students with SLD and OHD.
– Support students in achieving their post-secondary transition goals related to training, employment, and independent living.
– Utilize innovative teaching methods to engage students and promote academic success.
– Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
– Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes social-emotional growth and independence.
– Facilitate skill development in areas such as communication, organization, and self-advocacy.
– Utilize resources such as the Life Skills room with a full apartment simulation and access to a shared PAES lab to enhance learning opportunities.
Qualifications:
– Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).
– Valid state teaching license/certification in Special Education.
– Experience working with students with SLD and OHD preferred.
– Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.
– Strong communication and collaboration skills.
– Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
– Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
