Job Summary:
The Human Resources Coordinator plays a key role in managing core HR operations for Fridley Public Schools, including staffing, benefits administration, insurance coordination, employee leaves, contract implementation, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position ensures timely and accurate reporting to government agencies and supports data-informed practices in areas such as workers’ compensation, job studies, and compensation analysis. In collaboration with the Senior Officer of HR, the coordinator helps maintain momentum on strategic initiatives and supports continuity, capacity, and alignment of HR functions with the district’s mission and goals.
This role also supports collective bargaining, the development of evaluation systems, and the implementation of digital performance platforms. The coordinator leads recruitment efforts, participates in hiring events, and develops student internship programs in collaboration with custodial services and Academic & Innovations. Additionally, the position monitors ESST compliance, trends in workers’ compensation, and seeks innovative, efficient ways to improve HR data systems and processes—contributing to a responsive, inclusive, and forward-thinking HR environment.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental job duties:
Personnel Staffing
* Oversee staffing processes, including employee onboarding, assignments, and transitions.
* Manage the implementation of group master agreements and individual employment contracts.
* Communicate employee information across relevant systems (AESOP, Keep Certified, SafeSchools, Campus, district webmaster, school personnel, technology department, other HRIS platforms).
* Lead recruiting initiatives, participate in recruiting events, and attract diverse and qualified candidates.
Benefits & Leave Administration
* Administer employee benefits, including health, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance.
* Coordinate leave programs such as COBRA, FMLA, flexible spending accounts, retiree insurance, and workers' compensation with third-party vendors.
* Conduct new employee orientation and benefits enrollment meetings.
* Prepare and communicate information related to leaves of absence, severance, and other benefit-related matters.
* Ensure compliance with Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) requirements.
Collaboration, Job Studies & Compensation Analysis
* Partner with district leadership and the Finance/Business Services Department to support collective bargaining efforts and compensation analysis.
* Assist in conducting job studies and supporting salary audits and benefit summaries.
* Help develop and implement performance evaluation systems and digital platforms for staff accountability and growth.
* Collaborate with district leaders to integrate evaluation tools aligned with district goals.
Workers’ Compensation & Trend Analysis
* Support workers’ compensation processes and trends, working closely with the Operations and Student Services departments to identify and manage trends.
* Monitor and analyze claims to ensure effective claims management and develop strategies to minimize future incidents.
* Ensure all required state and federal reports are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR records, documentation, and system entries.
* Foster innovation in HR data management and reporting, continuously improving methods for efficiency and accuracy.
* Support and assist internship & teaching pathway programs.
* Support Fridley Public School’s Alternative Compensation Plan (ACP) program.
* Develop and coordinate high school internship programs in collaboration with the custodial team and Academic & Innovations (e.g., CNA pathways), providing students with career opportunities in the district.
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Officer of HR, Superintendent and their designees.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Specific training or job experience required before appointment)
* Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
* At least 3-5 years of experience in human resources, preferably in an educational or public sector environment.
* High degree of aptitude and proficiency with computer based systems, including databases and personal computer applications such as Excel, Word, and Access.
* Experience working in a team environment with evidence of good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact positively with others and exceptional organizational and time management skills.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
* PHR (Professional in Human Resources) or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
Experience:
* Strong experience in benefits administration, workers' compensation, and compliance with state and federal HR regulations.
* Demonstrated experience with collective bargaining processes and job studies.
