New Century School District is an innovative STEM Public Charter School (PreK-12) located near the MN State Fairgrounds in St. Paul and a PreK-8 site in Bloomington (ie, Compass Academy). The main responsibilities and job duties for the special education coordinator position include: Compliance * Ensures compliance of State and Federal rules and regulations * Monitors special education staffing procedures to ensure that IEPs and evaluations are completed on time and that procedural deadlines are met at all times * Coordinates the special education evaluation process and helps determine eligibility * Administers evaluation assessments and helps the team determine eligibility determination * Assists in the development of IEPs and the implementation of the IEP plans * Provide continuous due process training to new special education teachers * Reviews IEPs, evaluation reports, progress reports, summary of performances and other due process documents to ensure they adhere to compliance criteria * Ensure all due process documents are filed appropriately in a secured location * Completes tuition acknowledgment forms and sends them to the resident districts in a timely manner * Coordinates and monitors third party MA billing processes * Ensures MARSS data are accurate for students with IEPs and they are identified with their correct disability designations and federal setting * Participates in dispute resolution processes as needed in the event a parent files a complaint Programming * Develop transition programming for high school students with transition needs * Support the setting 3 program with behaviors, plans, instruction, etc * Plan the Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) team meetings * Develop assessment plans and procedures for students with IEPs taking the district level assessments, FASTbridge, MCAs, MTAS and ACCESS * Develop plans to integrate assistive technology tools including augmentative communication Supervision * Develop schedules for the department including the special education paraprofessional staff * Participate in staff observations and performance evaluations for the teachers and paraprofessionals * Develop performance improvement plans for special education staff * Conduct interviews for applicants interviewing for special education positions Collaboration * Facilitate special education department meetings, case manager meetings and PLC team meetings * Collaborate with the behavior team to ensure students with special needs receive adequate discipline procedures * Collaborate with the multilingual department to help support the students with special needs who are also English Learners * Collaborate with the general education teachers to address any concerns pertaining to students with special needs * Participate in the school administrative team meetings to advocate for students in the special education Professional Development * Develop department wide professional development plans for the special education teachers and paraprofessionals * Provide consistent mentorship and coaching for new special education teachers including due process trainings * Develop parent training and workshops pertaining to special education Instructional Support * Review student data and department data * Monitor student academic progress and performance data * Instructional support and resources for special education teachers * Provide substitute coverage as needed and reinforce sub plans * There are other duties assigned by the school administrators.
