Metro Schools, a public charter school located in North Minneapolis, is looking for a High School Math Teacher. We focus on catching students up academically and setting them up for college and beyond. Our population is roughly 90% EL students, and 99% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. As a staff we are committed to holding high expectations for all students in all courses. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: &#8226; Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide effective teaching strategies while adhering to the district philosophy and vision. &#8226; Create a classroom environment that responds to the needs of individual learners. &#8226; Translate lesson plans into learning experience in a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies. &#8226; Ability to create functional spaces for students that are welcoming yet highly structured and fit the needs of the student/s you are serving. &#8226; Utilize proactive behavior management techniques. Ability to reinforce positive behaviors, utilize de-escalation techniques, and redirect inappropriate behaviors. &#8226; Provide instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff including creating and assigning activities, instructional oversight and providing general guidance. &#8226; Communicate with parents in a timely manner. Maintain positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents, and community. &#8226; Work collaboratively with parents and other staff members to reinforce the educational program and advocate for each student. &#8226; Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication. &#8226; Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and clearly communicate expectations. &#8226; Uses flexible thinking and has the adaptability to address student needs and respond calmly during crisis situations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May require exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, standing, speaking, hearing, sitting, walking, lifting and repetitive motions. Rarely requires exertion of up to 50 pounds of force, stopping, kneeling, running, crawling and crouching.
