Dean of Students Gateway STEM Academy Location: Burnsville, MN Type: Full-Time School Year: 2025&#8211;2026 Position Summary Gateway STEM Academy, a K&#8211;8 charter school in Burnsville, MN, is seeking a proactive, student-centered, and culturally responsive Dean of Students to support a safe, inclusive, and academically focused learning environment. The Dean of Students will lead school-wide efforts in behavior management, restorative practices, student discipline, attendance, PBIS implementation, and social-emotional learning (SEL). As a key member of the leadership team, the Dean will play a critical role in promoting a strong school culture aligned with Gateway&#8217;s mission of preparing students, particularly from underrepresented communities, for success in STEM and beyond. This role also includes providing occasional substitute teaching support to ensure instructional continuity. ________________________________ Key Responsibilities Student Behavior, PBIS, and School Culture * Promote and maintain a positive, inclusive school climate through proactive behavior supports, SEL, PBIS, and restorative practices * Oversee student behavior systems including referrals, interventions, and discipline, ensuring alignment with school policies and values * Lead the implementation, monitoring, and refinement of the school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system * Serve as a key point of contact for managing student discipline issues, restorative conversations, and family communication * Monitor and analyze behavior and PBIS data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement * Collaborate with teachers to implement culturally responsive and trauma-informed classroom management strategies * Support implementation of school-wide SEL programs and lead anti-bullying, conflict resolution, and school safety initiatives Student Support and Attendance * Partner with families, teachers, and support staff to develop and monitor behavior intervention plans (BIPs) * Coordinate and facilitate student support team meetings and contribute to the school&#8217;s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process * Track, monitor, and support student attendance, including addressing chronic absenteeism and coordinating outreach efforts * Communicate proactively with families to support student success and engagement Instructional and Operational Support * Support hallway, recess, lunchroom, arrival, and dismissal supervision to ensure smooth daily operations * Provide classroom coverage and occasional substitute teaching when needed * Participate actively in the school leadership team and contribute to school-wide planning, staff support, and culture building ________________________________ Qualifications * Bachelor&#8217;s degree in education, counseling, or a related field (Master&#8217;s preferred) * Valid Minnesota teaching or administrative license preferred * Minimum of 3 years of experience in a K&#8211;8 setting, ideally in a diverse, urban, or charter school environment * Strong knowledge of PBIS, restorative practices, MTSS, SEL, and schoolwide behavior systems * Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively with students, staff, and families * Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices * Strong organizational, data analysis, and problem-solving skills * Willingness to provide flexible support to the school, including subbing as needed * Bilingual or multilingual abilities are highly valued ________________________________ What We Offer * Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package * Supportive, mission-driven school culture and leadership team * Ongoing professional development in leadership, equity, SEL, and restorative practices * A collaborative and innovative environment dedicated to student success ________________________________ About Gateway STEM Academy Gateway STEM Academy is a dynamic K&#8211;8 public charter school dedicated to preparing students, particularly those from East African and other underrepresented backgrounds, for success in STEM fields and beyond. Position Summary
