Special Education Teacher - Friendship Academy of the Arts Position Purpose: Teach elementary school students with disabilities including SLD, EBD, Developmental Delay, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Organization Relationships: This position reports directly to the Special Education Coordinator and will interact on a regular basis with other staff, teachers, and external customers. This position works cooperatively with other school staff. Principal Accountabilities/Essential Functions/Qualifications: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Administer standardized ability and achievement tests to elementary students with special needs * Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, or other professionals to develop individual education plans (IEPs). * Employ special educational strategies or techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, or memory. Encourage students to explore learning opportunities or persevere with challenging tasks to prepare them for later grades. * Develop IEPs designed to promote students&#8217; educational, physical, or social development. Develop or implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of disabilities. * Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students. Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies. Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. * Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check. Education and Experience: * The Position requires a minimum of a Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Specific Learning Disabilities, or a closely-related field, plus at least 6 months of experience working with students with special needs. * Position also requires a Minnesota state license in Specific Learning Disabilities, in compliance with the state regulations. * An additional license in Behavioral Disorder (EBD) is a plus. Language Skills: * Ability to prepare Individual Education Plans (IEP) through SPED Forms and keep accurate records of each student&#8217;s plan and progress. * Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and communication skills. * Ability to use personal computer and standard business and other work related software with minimal instruction. -- Dr. B.
