FULL TIME TITLE: COMMUNITY EDUCATION DIRECTOR FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Superintendent TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Recruits and supervises community education employees to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluation; ensuring staff is trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations which are subject to School Board approval. * Works collaboratively with other entities, including cities, the County and civic organizations to leverage resources that enrich the lives of community members. Serves as the District representative to applicable consortias. * Prepares and administers budgets for Community Education programs, which includes allocating resources and approving expenditures; maintains appropriate financial paperwork and reports. * Administers the general operations of district facilities during non-school hours, which includes ensuring the safety and security of individuals utilizing the facility. * Assesses community needs and determines priorities for the growth and development of Community Education programs in collaboration with staff and advisory council(s). * Coordinates the Community Education Advisory Council (CEAC) and serves as a liaison between the CEAC and staff members and the community. * Develops and submits program proposals, long-range plans and reports to local, state and federal agencies. * Develops and disseminates information to the community and school district on community Education programs and activities. * Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: * Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in Community Education, Recreation, Education or a related field, or * An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: * Licensure as a Community Education Director in the State of Minnesota. KNOWLEDGE: * Leadership principles and practices; * Budgeting principles and practices; * Policy and political influences; * Resource allocation methods; * Data collection methods; * Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations; * Community education issues, principles, philosophies and practices; * Community assessment mechanisms; * Available community resources; * Public relations principles; * Program management principles and practices. SKILLS: Supervising and evaluating employees; * Prioritizing and assigning work; * Developing and administering program budget; * Operating a computer and using applicable software applications; * Mediating and resolving conflict; * Interpreting and applying local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations; * Collecting, interpreting and analyzing various forms of data; * Composing a variety of written documentation; * Conducting needs assessments, analyzing results, and making recommendations based on findings; * Identifying available community resources; * Speaking in public; * Articulating the community education concept, its development, implementation, maintenance and expansion; * Conducting effective meetings; * Developing strategies for building trust among community groups and between individuals; * Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work directions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Positions in this class typically require: fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. * Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/ or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
