Position Overview:
We are seeking an innovative and student-centered Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Teacher to lead and grow our 7–12 FACS program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for empowering students with essential life skills in areas such as culinary arts, child development, textiles, interior design, and personal finance. This position includes teaching a variety of high-interest, practical courses and providing authentic learning experiences that prepare students for adult life and potential careers in human services, education, health, and hospitality.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and deliver curriculum aligned with Minnesota state standards for Family and Consumer Sciences.
* Teach a range of engaging courses such as:
* ?Personal Finance
* Careers
* Study Skills
* Accounting
* Child Development 1 & 2
* Interior Design and Housing
* Adulting 101
* Provide hands-on, project-based instruction that develops career readiness, practical life skills, and cross-curricular competencies.
* Support students in exploring career pathways in fields such as early childhood education, nutrition, fashion, and human services.
* Collaborate with colleagues to integrate FACS with other subject areas and school initiatives.
* Foster partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to enhance learning opportunities.
* Maintain a safe and organized classroom and lab environment (kitchen, sewing, and/or design spaces).
* Engage in continuous professional development and stay up-to-date with trends in FACS education.
* Participate actively in school-wide programs and support the district’s strategic plan for student achievement and future readiness.
Qualifications:
* Required: Minnesota teaching license in Family and Consumer Sciences (or ability to obtain licensure).
* Preferred: Experience teaching FACS courses, working in culinary arts or early childhood settings, or leading career exploration activities.
* Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
* Commitment to student engagement, equity, and 21st-century skill development.
* Effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families.
