Title: Dakota Iapi Revitalization Coordinator at Cedar Mountain
Status: Temporary Full-Time
Reports to: Cedar Mountain Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewic̣akiya
Wage: $20.00
Position: Temporary Full Time June 2025-June 30th, 2026
Dakota Iapi Revitalization Coordinator Position description: Under the direction of the Cedar Mountain Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewic̣akiya. They will be an apprentice to become a proficient Dakota language speaking teacher the Cedar Mountain School District and will oversee the Cedar Mountain Revitalization Grant. They will focus on language-speaking support and cultural teachings to promote and sustain a Dakota language learning environment through Dakota language classes, materials, and, in turn, the Dakota culture. Following the Cedar Mountain Revitalization Grant for timeline and goals to ensure completion.
Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewic̣akiya Duties:
1. Ensures that the school/center environment is welcoming to students, children, families, staff, and visitors.
2. Attend C̣aƞṡayapi Waḳaƞyeża Owayawa Oṭi (CWOO) Dakota Iapi classes, Dakota Iapi Online Course 5 days a week (University of Minnesota – Twin Cities), and Cedar Mountain Dakota Iapi classes to grow own language.
3. With Cedar Mountain Dakota Iapi Wauƞspewic̣akiya, increase language access through monthly Elementary, Middle School, and High School push-in teachings in addition to the Dakota Iapi High School class.
4. Increase Dakota Language and culture materials through 18 videos and 108 learning printouts (36 Elementary, 36 Middle School, and 36 High School).
5. Creates materials based on lessons in classrooms to bridge what is happening in classrooms to Families.
6. Submit timely language videos, materials, recordings, and lesson plans.
7. Coordinate contracted language videographers for pronunciation of videos.
8. Collaborate with LSIC for language materials.
9. Speak Language to continue growing language proficiency. Actively try to speak in the language during conversations outside of the classroom and outside of language learning times with Dakota language teacher to grow language learning and understandably.
10. Orientate and grow in language at CWOO with final assessment at CWOO.
11. Attend curriculum enrichment trips (quarterly) and all CMC staff professional development days.
12. Speaks and role models Dakota language with all staff, families, and students to promote and sustain a Dakota language learning environment.
13. Support Students, Staff, and Families in language acquisition and production
16. Help translate curriculum and translations request in Dakota to create resources and material with Dakota language teacher.
18. Support staff with trainings in the Dakota language and culture.
20. Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge and Attributes.
- Fluency in Dakota Language
- Experience teaching Dakota Language and culture
- Experience teaching educators in Dakota language and culture
- Excellent communication skills
