Elementary Physical Education and Health Teacher
POSITION STATUS: Full-time
START DATE: 2025-2026 school year
COMPENSATION: $40,800.00-$60,626.65, based on experience.

North Lakes Academy (NLA) is a K-12 charter school located in Forest Lake, Minnesota, a community about 25 miles north of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. NLA operates an elementary campus (grades K-6) and a secondary campus (grades 7-12) and serves 425 students. At all grade levels, NLA embraces the principles of small class sizes, personalized learning, and a diverse liberal arts education, which includes fostering the emotional intelligence of our students and building strong relationships between families, staff, and students.
Job Summary:
The Elementary Physical Education and Health Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, standards-based physical education and health program to elementary students. The teacher will promote lifelong fitness, physical activity, and wellness, while also fostering social, emotional, and cognitive development through movement and health education.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Health.
Valid PE and Health teaching license, valid for the state of Minnesota.
Previous teaching experience at the elementary level (preferred).
Strong understanding of child development and effective teaching practices.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Passionate about working with young children and creating a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to differentiate instruction and engage diverse learners.
Knowledge of child development and positive behavior management strategies.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Contract Days: 185 Days
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement age-appropriate PE lessons that align with national and state standards.
Teach fundamental motor skills, movement patterns, physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Create a safe and inclusive environment for all students to participate and succeed.
Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of skill development and fitness levels.
Organize physical activities, games, and sports that engage all learners.
Health Education:
Teach health topics such as nutrition, hygiene, personal safety, mental health, and human growth and development.
Promote awareness of healthy lifestyles and decision-making skills.
Integrate health content with broader wellness initiatives and school programs.
General Duties:
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe gym and classroom environment.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, school counselors, and other staff to support student development.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and health-related events.
Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives.
Monitor student behavior and enforce rules aligned with the school’s discipline policies.
Work Environment:
Work takes place in a gymnasium, outdoor fields, and occasionally in classrooms.
May require standing for long periods, physical activity, and lifting light equipment.
