Primary Function (Purpose of Position):  A DeLaSalle High School English Teacher will play a crucial role in fostering a love of literature, language, and critical thinking among our students. This teacher will inspire and engage students, creating an atmosphere that encourages intellectual curiosity and a lifelong appreciation.

Ethical Standards:  Employees of DeLaSalle High School must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of DeLaSalle High School.  Their personal behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church, nor can it embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal.  Although specific positions may not require the employee to be of the Catholic faith, it is expected that all employees respect the Roman Catholic doctrine and religious practices.  Reasonable accommodations for the religious practices of employees not of the Roman Catholic faith will similarly be provided.

Representative Responsibilities:

1.      Curriculum Development:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that provide engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards, fostering students’ proficiency in reading, writing, and critical analysis.
  • Integrate technology and real-world applications into lessons to enhance student understanding and engagement.
2.      Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Regularly assess student progress through a variety of methods, including quizzes, tests, and projects.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, parents, and administrators on student performance.
3.      Classroom Management:
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and collaboration.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere.
4.      Literary Exploration:
  • Introduce students to a diverse range of literature, including classic and contemporary works, to broaden their literary knowledge and analytical skills.
5.      Writing Skills:
  • Cultivate strong writing skills by guiding students through the writing process, from brainstorming and drafting to editing and finalizing various forms of written expression.
6.      Professional Development:
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in English education and incorporate innovative teaching methods.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and contribute to the overall school community.
Other Responsibilities:  Additional responsibilities identified as needed by the employer and approved and/or assigned by the supervisor.
 
Qualifications:
  • BA in English, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Teaching certification for high school English.
  • Demonstrated passion for teaching and a commitment to student success.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students to excel.
  • Experience with integrating technology into the classroom is a plus.
  • Classroom teaching experience at the high school level is preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission of DeLaSalle High School.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • Able to work during the week or whatever is required – including occasional weekend and evening work.
  • Ability to lift and move using proper techniques up to and including 25 pounds.
