Special Education Paraprofessional 2025-2026 - St. James Public Schools - ISD840
Location: Northside Elementary School – St. James Public Schools
Position: Full-Time Paraeducator – Special Education
Start Date: As soon as possible
Schedule: School-year position, Monday through Friday
Anticipated Hours: 7:45-3:15pm
Supervisor: Building Principal & Assigned Case Manager
Position Summary:
St. James Public Schools is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and student-focused Special Education Paraeducator to support the diverse academic and behavioral needs of students at Northside Elementary (Grades K–5). The paraeducator will work directly under the supervision of licensed special education staff and collaborate with the broader educational team to promote
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist students with instructional tasks as directed by the case manager or classroom teacher.
Support the implementation of IEP accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans.
Promote student independence by encouraging self-help skills and fostering a positive learning environment.
Supervise students in multiple settings (classroom, small group, lunchroom, playground, etc.).
Document student progress and observations when appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with district policy and legal requirements.
Engage in ongoing staff development, including training on accommodations, behavior strategies, and communication techniques.
Required Qualifications:
Must have a High School Diploma/GED and or College Degree. Or must be able to pass the ParaEducator Assessment upon hire
Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
Willingness to support students with a range of disabilities, including academic, behavioral, and physical needs.
Ability to lift, transfer, or physically support students if necessary
Ability to obtain PCA and CPI Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a paraprofessional or in a school setting.
- ?Training in de-escalation, trauma-informed practices, or behavior management.
Compensation & Benefits:
Hourly wage and benefits per the Para/Cook Master Agreement.
Paid sick leave and personal leave as outlined in district policy.
Participation in staff professional development sessions throughout the school year.
