Journey Program Overview

Students in the Journey Program range from grades 4–21 and receive special education services primarily under Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Developmental/Cognitive Disability (DCD) criteria.

Students at Journey require an individualized curriculum, a high staff-to-student ratio, and a customized Federal Setting IV learning environment.

Students in the Journey Program have been referred from an ISD 742 school or transition program due to their unique and significant needs in the areas of self-regulation, social/emotional, and behavior.

This setting allows for highly individualized and flexible programming, ensuring that students’ behavioral and sensory needs are met while building functional skills and increasing their independence.

None

SALARY:
$26.00/hr – $32.00/hr (dependent on qualifications and experience)


QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, or related field OR AA degree and equivalent work experience

  • Experience working with students with challenging emotional/behavioral needs and at-risk students with academic, social, and behavioral concerns

Preferred:

  • Significant, extensive experience working with students receiving Special Education Services


POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the building supervisor, the Behavior Resource Specialist serves to enhance the instruction provided by the teacher, case manager, or related service staff to supplement instructional activities or provide extended practice.

This may include providing guided practice, cues, behavior plan implementation support, data collection, and student response related to their identified Behavior Support Plans and IEP goals.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work with students with challenging emotional/behavioral needs and academic and social concerns

  • Understanding of developmental and psychological links to students’ emotional and behavioral needs

  • Ability to form strong, positive relationships with students and staff to support self-regulation and overall social, emotional, and academic growth

  • Ability to foster independence, self-esteem, and self-confidence in students

  • Knowledge of behavior management and de-escalation techniques

  • Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written

  • Emotional control, patience, and persistence in stressful situations

  • Ability to maintain tolerance for a range of student behaviors

  • Ability to observe, chart, and describe student behaviors accurately

  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and school resource


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Respond to the behavior resource room as needed to provide positive behavioral and emotional interventions and supports

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement positive interventions for identified students, including daily, weekly, and long-term goals and activities

  • Re-teach social skills and affective curriculum in resource rooms and classrooms; provide individual behavior therapy as needed

  • Assist administrators with parent communication and provide parent information and education regarding positive behavior supports

  • Collaborate with program and district administration to develop and implement proactive behavior strategies for the school community

  • Work collaboratively with instructional staff to increase academic success for students with challenging behaviors and reduce disruptive behaviors

  • Conduct classroom observations and data collection to support behavioral analysis and intervention planning

  • Serve as a member of the site MTSS Team

  • Assist in classrooms to meet individual and group needs as requested

  • Collect, report, and summarize behavioral data

  • Perform other duties as assigned
