Community School of Excellence (CSE) is a Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade Hmong Language and Culture Charter school that is a family. Job Summary
The primary role of the E-Sports Coach is to coordinate, organize, and promote a comprehensive sporting program designed to meet the needs and interests of the school; to provide effective leadership that will enhance the learning environment for students by providing effective, personalized attention; engaging in appropriate instructional and behavioral support; and, modeling “The Excellent Way” with respect, responsibility, and being reflective. The Community School athletics and extended learning programs are designed to offer our students the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities that complement and integrate the school’s mission.
The E-Sports Coach is responsible for supporting the Community School of Excellence students with dedication, enthusiasm, adaptability, kindness, passion, and energy. Much of the work of a Coach consists of student supervision and behavior management in large group settings, as well as providing instruction on the proper methods, rules, and regulations of extracurricular activities. The Coach is employed at-will and operates as a professional within the guidelines established by the Community School of Excellence. In cooperation with CSE staff and volunteers, the Coach works to fulfill the school’s mission in the following areas of responsibility:
Responsibilities
Recruit, organize, and supervise team members for school E-sports teams.
Develop practice schedules, strategies, and team development plans for each game.
Teach game mechanics, teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking.
Promote good sportsmanship, digital citizenship, and respect in all gaming environments.
Manage online and in-person competitions, including scheduling and travel logistics.
Monitor player eligibility, academic progress, and behavior in accordance with school and MSHSL guidelines.
Maintain E-sports equipment, gaming systems, and lab space.
Collaborate with the Activities Director to build partnerships, plan events, and grow community support for the E-sports program.
Serve as a mentor and role model for students, emphasizing teamwork, leadership, and healthy gaming habits.
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of competitive gaming, especially Valorant, Fortnite, or Chess.
Experience coaching, mentoring, or teaching students preferred.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team environment.
Familiarity with tournament structures, online gaming platforms, and E-sports culture
Time Commitment:
Seasonal position with after-school practices and occasional weekend tournaments.
Required Qualifications
Current/previous coaching experience
Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to student and other information as required by FERPA
Current Adult/Pediatric First Aid with CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain
