Position Purpose:
The Speech and Language Pathologist Long-Term Substitute provides specialized instructional support and services to students with identified communication needs. In collaboration with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams, the SLP substitute assesses, plans, and delivers individualized interventions that support students’ speech, language, and social-communication development. The position ensures continuity of services during the regular SLP’s absence and helps students access the curriculum and make meaningful progress toward their IEP goals.
Essential Functions:
Provide direct and indirect speech and language therapy services to students in accordance with their IEPs.
Conduct observations, informal assessments, and progress monitoring to support instructional decisions.
Implement established treatment plans and therapy schedules to ensure continuity of services.
Collaborate with teachers, case managers, and support staff to integrate communication strategies into classroom environments.
Document session notes, progress data, and student performance in compliance with school and district procedures.
Participate in IEP meetings as needed, providing input on student progress and recommended supports.
Communicate effectively with families regarding student needs, progress, and strategies for home support.
Assist with scheduling, organization of materials, and maintenance of student files related to speech services.
Support a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment: Use standard office equipment such as; personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Work Schedule: Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers'' Unit Contract.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of speech and language development, communication disorders, and evidence-based intervention practices.
Understanding of special education laws, IEP procedures, and documentation requirements.
Skill in delivering direct therapy using a variety of tools, strategies, and materials that meet diverse learner needs.
Ability to collect, interpret, and communicate student progress data.
Strong collaboration skills for working effectively with teachers, support staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to manage schedules, organize materials, and prioritize tasks in a school setting.
Effective communication skills for interacting with students, families, and colleagues.
Ability to adapt therapy approaches based on student responsiveness and instructional context.
Capacity to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
Problem-solving skills and flexibility to support students across grade levels and varying communication needs.
Certification/License: PreK-12 Speech and Language Pathologist
Education:
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Masters Degree preferred.
FLSA Status: Exempt
