Job Objective: | The Transportation Director plans, organizes and directs the overall management transportation functions to assure the well being of the District and to efficiently and effectively provide these services necessary to support the District’s mission and goals. |
Preferred qualifications / skills:
Previous transportation experience preferred.
Previous experience leading a multidisciplinary team.
Required qualifications / skills:
Must have superior decision-making skills.
Must have the ability to delegate effectively.
Must possess executive-level communication and influencing skills with the ability to resolve issues, build consensus among groups of diverse internal/external stakeholders, and have proven skill in negotiating and mediating conflict.
Must have a strong work ethic, high ethical standards, self-confidence, and good time-management skills.
Must have interpersonal relations skills, especially being a good listener; strong skills in written and oral communications; facilitation, coaching, and administrative skills.
Must have or be able to obtain a CDL / bus endorsement with in 1 year of employment
Performance Responsibilities:
The employee is to be knowledgeable about all district policies.
Attend School Board meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
Attend District Administrative Team meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
Responsible for executing the vision set forth by the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools.
Understand the district’s budget, budgeting process, and spending procedures and navigate them effectively to secure adequate resources for the transportation operations.
Responsible for the organization, administration, and supervision of the school district transportation system in accordance with state law and policies, along with school district policies.
Prepare, review, and approve bus routes and route maps for drivers for the regular school year, summer school, and special education transportation.
Review and assign regular driver assignments to bus routes and the scheduling of those routes.
Arrange for substitute drivers as needed.
Recruit, interview, check background, and recommend bus drivers for employment.
Perform yearly driver evaluations.
Address driver performance issues.
Certify drivers’ training.
Oversee the training of all bus drivers and substitute drivers.
Assign drivers for field trips and extracurricular activities.
Ensure all school vehicles are maintained and review bids for vehicle purchases.
Ensure all school vehicles meet guidelines for DOT vehicle inspections.
Communicate district policies to drivers.
Work in tangent with buildings’ principals/directors to address student behavior issues.
Review camera footage to identify and address any external or internal violations of law or behavior expectations.
Responsible for fielding buildings’ and families’ student transportation inquiries.
Responsible for the district completing school bus safety courses for all students on a yearly basis.
Performance Evaluation:
Job performance is evaluated according to the policy provisions and contractual agreements.
