Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours per week; typical office hours between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with flexibility based on operational needs)
Salary Range: $24/hr to $28/hr

Position Summary
The Human Resources Assistant is responsible for the processing of key human resources functions, including benefits administration, leave management, onboarding, job postings, payroll support, and compliance-related processes. This position serves as a point of contact for employees, vendors, and external agencies regarding benefits and leave matters and exercises discretion and independent judgment in the application of laws, regulations, district policies, and procedures.

The Human Resources Assistant works under the general direction of the Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Generalist and supports the overall operations of the Human Resources Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a point of contact for employees and vendors regarding benefits, leave, onboarding, and routine human resources processes; provide information based on established procedures and refer questions outside assigned scope to Human Resources leadership.
- Assist with the administration of employee benefits, including enrollments, changes, documentation, and coordination with vendors, following established guidelines and timelines.
- Support leave administration processes, including tracking and documentation related to FMLA and Minnesota Paid Family and Medical Leave; assist with required reporting and compliance tasks under the direction of HR leadership.
- Identify and promptly escalate benefits, leave, ADA, payroll, or compliance-related questions or issues to the Director of Human Resources or Human Resources Generalist for review and direction.
- Coordinate onboarding activities for new employees, including employment eligibility verification (I-9), background checks, required paperwork, and orientation logistics, in accordance with established processes.
- Prepare and post job openings and assist with hiring documentation and compliance requirements as directed.
- Assist with the processing of unemployment claims and related documentation; support hearing preparation and participation as assigned.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential employee records within the district’s HRIS and related systems in accordance with data practices requirements and internal procedures.
- Support payroll-related processes by assisting with data entry, audits, and reporting; communicate discrepancies or questions to appropriate HR or payroll staff.
- Run standard reports, maintain tracking logs, and update spreadsheets to support HR operations, compliance monitoring, and audits.
- Perform other human resources and operational support duties as assigned, consistent with the scope of a non-exempt, hourly position.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) or more years of relevant experience in Human Resources or related professional administrative work, or a combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment when handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms and productivity tools, including Google Workspace.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Experience in Human Resources within education, government, or public-sector environments.
- Experience with benefits administration, leave management, and employee onboarding.
- Professional Human Resources certification (PHR or SHRM-CP).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Primarily office-based work environment.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and work at a computer for prolonged periods of time.
