Hutchinson Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for our Transition Assistance Program beginning March 30, 2026 for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year and beyond.
The Special Education Teacher at TAP supports students in developing employability and independent living skills through classroom instruction and community-based work experiences. This role partners with families, employers, and community agencies to promote successful transition to competitive employment and adult independence.
This position will work 47 days in the 2025-2026 school year, 8 hours per day. Then, in the 2026-2027 school year and forward this position will work 183 days per year, 8 hours per day.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver an approved curriculum focused on vocational and independent living skills.
- Assess student progress and provide individualized instruction, accommodations, and behavioral supports.
- Develop and adapt community work sites to meet student needs and maximize skill development.
- Coordinate job placements and collaborate with employers on performance feedback.
- Supervise and schedule Job Coaches and facilitate regular team meetings. Participate in IEP meetings and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations (ADA, OSHA, OCR).
- Serve as a liaison among students, families, employers, and community agencies.
- Maintain accurate records and manage program finances in accordance with district policies.
- Model professional conduct and maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- MN Special Education licensure (DD, ASD, or ABS) and Work-Based Learning (WBL) endorsement is preferred. Applicants may contact the district for licensure options.
- Valid driver''s license and ability to obtain van driver certification.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and community partners.
- Ability to travel between school and community work sites.
- Ability to manage multiple schedules and documentation requirements.

The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is a Hutchinson Public Schools educational program for young adults with disabilities ranging in age from 18-22 years. TAP is a community-based program emphasizing work experience and independent living skills. The TAP program assists in providing special education programming to increase a student''s ability to live and work as independently as possible. Services are provided in the areas of Jobs and Job Training, Recreation and Leisure, Community Participation, Home Living, and Post-Secondary Options. Currently, TAP is serving students from Hutchinson, Litchfield, Buffalo Lake-Hector, Glencoe-Silver Lake, and GFW school districts.
