Job Title: School-Based Physical Therapist- Long Term Substitute- June 3-July 28, 2026 Location: West Central Education District Reports To: Special Education Supervisor Position Overview: The licensed Physical Therapist (PT) evaluates students with needs related to neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, sensorimotor, or cardiopulmonary conditions that affect their ability to access and participate in their educational environment. The Physical Therapist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring therapeutic programs and providing consultation to school staff and parents so students can benefit from special education services and access their educational programs. Essential Functions: Plans and provides physical therapy interventions specific to each student?s individual needs. Provides programming supervision to Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs). Evaluates and screens students to determine functional abilities and needs within the educational setting and helps determine the appropriate level of service or intervention. Communicates with district personnel, students, care providers, and parents; participates in meetings as requested and serves as a liaison with medical providers and outside agencies regarding student needs related to physical therapy services. Supports parents of children with disabilities in understanding the role of school-based physical therapy services and how to access school and community resources. Consults with teachers and parents regarding appropriate motor activities, self-help skills, and specialized equipment or assistive technology devices as necessary. Provides student-specific technical support by adapting, modifying, or recommending specialized equipment to facilitate student performance and access to the educational environment. Supports classroom personnel in the effective use of classroom-based technology and assistive technology to facilitate student success. Provides professional development for school personnel on topics such as injury prevention, proper student handling and positioning, equipment use, development of children with disabilities, and barriers that may limit student access and participation in school. Submits documentation and data for third-party billing as required. Adheres to all due process procedures and compliance requirements and ensures confidentiality of student and family information. Maintains positive public relations and customer service with member districts, staff, parents, and the general public. Follows all organizational policies and regulations. Maintains regular and prompt attendance. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of third-party billing requirements and documentation procedures. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, service cooperative staff, and outside agencies. Ability to manage multiple assignments and problem-solve independently. Ability to collect, interpret, summarize, compare, and apply data. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, school staff, service cooperative staff, and other agency personnel. Ability to present information to both small and large groups. Ability to effectively use technology and related software. Education: Advanced degree in Physical Therapy required- Masters or Doctorate Level Licensure/Certification: Minnesota licensure as a Physical Therapist through the Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy. Valid driver?s license. Working Conditions: Position serves multiple school districts and early intervention settings. Work is performed in a variety of environments including school buildings, classrooms, therapy spaces, community settings, and family homes as part of Birth?2 early intervention services. Considerable travel between districts, schools, homes, and community locations is required. Work is typically performed during the traditional school year and may include additional days during the summer. Work schedules may include early morning, evening, or occasional weekend activities to accommodate student and family needs. Position requires physical activity including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, positioning, and transferring students and equipment as part of therapeutic services. Work may involve stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, and repetitive movements for extended periods of time. Work requires the physical conditioning and endurance necessary to provide therapeutic services to students from birth through age 22 in their natural environments.
