Start Your Online Application Now Date of Availability: September 2026 Date Closing: Until Filled Special Education Teacher, Long-Term Substitute - Delano Intermediate School POSITION DETAILS: Location: Delano Intermediate School Hours: 8 hours/day (7:30 to 3:30) Anticipated Start Date / Duration: 12 weeks starting on September 11, 2026 (specific dates are subject to change slightly) Salary: $271.23/day ESSENTIAL DUTIES Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide effective teaching strategies while adhering to the district philosophy and vision. Create a classroom environment that responds to the needs of individual learners. Translate lesson plans into learning experience in a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies. Ability to create functional spaces for students that are welcoming yet highly structured and fit the needs of the student/s you are serving. Utilize proactive behavior management techniques. Ability to reinforce positive behaviors, utilize de-escalation techniques, and redirect inappropriate behaviors. Provide instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff including creating and assigning activities, instructional oversight and providing general guidance. Communicate with parents in a timely manner. Maintain positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents, and community. Work collaboratively with parents and other staff members to reinforce the educational program and advocate for each student. Thorough knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations. Good oral, written and interpersonal communication. Ability to adhere to due process timelines and complete individualized education plan and evaluation paperwork to guide educational programming Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and clearly communicate expectations. Uses flexible thinking and has the adaptability to address student needs and respond calmly during crisis situations. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Any K-12 special education certification or ability to obtain is required to fulfill this position. Preference will be given to candidates with EBD, ASD, or ABS, as well as candidates with multiple licensure areas. Additional training, based on candidates experience, will be provided as needed. Successful completion of (or progress toward) one of the MDE approved Science of Reading Professional Development Programs (LETRS, CAREIALL, OL&LA, STRIVE) is preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May require exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, standing, speaking, hearing, sitting, walking, lifting and repetitive motions. Rarely requires exertion of up to 50 pounds of force, stopping, kneeling, running, crawling and crouching.
