Riverview Elementary School
40 hours per week
184 days per year
2026-2027 school year
$52,071 - $100,025 depending on experience and education
Description:
A support specialist to work alongside the principals, counselors, general education teachers and families to provide resources and strategies for learners who are struggling.
Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure that appropriate interventions and services are relevant to the specific needs, interests, and culture of the learner.
- Build relationships, check in with learners who are in need of building trusting, safe and consistent adult relationships that may not be possible to meet in the classroom
- Provide support for learners as they move through I-team e.g. acculturation, observation, parent engagement, cultural norms.
- Work with building problem solving teams (iTeams) to establish effective and efficient processes for Tier II and III academic and behavioral intervention.
- Advise administration concerning school to home communication: attendance, school performance issues, discipline issues, school policies and procedures, teacher or administrative communications and extra-curricular opportunities
- Provide input on student shutting down, off-task behavior, difficulty disengaging with peers during class time, poor boundaries with peers or adults, inattentiveness, escape, avoidance, work refusal, emotion regulation.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
- State of Minnesota licensure in any area of teaching (covering appropriate grade levels of assignment), special education, school psychology, school counselor, or school social work
- Three years of teaching or other appropriate professional experience.
- Additional competencies in dealing with difficult behaviors, or mental health needs. Specialized training in supporting students and staff with disruptive behaviors, mental health needs, and trauma. Specialized knowledge of working with marginalized groups of students, and families.
- Ability to create positive relationships with teachers, administrators and support staff
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
