7?12 Social Studies Teacher (Head Boys Basketball Coaching Available) Description: Ortonville School District is seeking a student-centered 7?12 Social Studies teacher to join a team committed to civic engagement, critical thinking, and meaningful student relationships. As we expand career pathway programming, Social Studies is essential?students must understand the complexities of history, geography, and economics while developing the inquiry skills necessary to navigate a global society. HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH POSITION AVAILABLE ? This coaching role is available but not required with this teaching position. Other coaching and advising opportunities are also available. We prioritize a classroom culture where students investigate primary sources, engage in civil discourse, and grow as informed citizens through consistent inquiry and feedback. We are looking for an educator who balances high expectations with high support and who believes that social studies is the foundation for critical thinking across all disciplines. Licensure Requirement Applicants must be eligible for Minnesota licensure in Social Studies (5?12) or the appropriate MN Social Studies licensure aligned to the assignment. Key Responsibilities Teach secondary Social Studies courses aligned to Minnesota standards (specific grade levels/courses based on scheduling and staffing). Foster a culture of inquiry using high-quality primary and secondary sources to support historical thinking and comprehension. Develop students? ability to communicate arguments effectively through evidence-based writing, presentations, and structured classroom discussions. Explicitly teach academic vocabulary and literacy strategies within the social studies context to support all learners. Use assessment data to differentiate instruction and provide targeted support, including interventions and accommodations as needed. Collaborate with colleagues to support literacy across content areas and integrate pathway-aligned projects or performance tasks. Maintain a positive, structured learning environment and build strong relationships with students and families. Preferred Qualifications Strong practices for supporting struggling readers within complex informational texts (MTSS, intervention supports). Experience designing authentic tasks (debates, research projects, civic action) that connect to student interests and career pathways. Willingness to contribute to the school community through coaching or advising.
