St. Paul School of Northern Lights is a public charter school serving students in grades K-8 in St. Paul’s Highland Park neighborhood. St. Paul School of Northern Lights is looking for educators who are passionate about supporting students’ curiosity and love of learning. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to teach in an interdisciplinary, multi-age, progressive, culturally relevant classroom and community. We are seeking teachers who view the challenging endeavor of working in our school as an opportunity to work with agency, autonomy, and purpose. Desirable candidates will appreciate time for reflection, collaboration, and innovation with colleagues. Effective teachers will find opportunities to teach without a prescribed curriculum and the opportunity to teach across content areas as an asset and opportunity to co-create learning experiences that are responsive to student curiosity, strengths, needs, and evolving understanding of the world around them.
Required Qualifications
Current Minnesota teaching license or ability to receive a variance
Proven ability to honor and support the strengths and needs of diverse learners, including students across racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, neurodiverse and disabled learners, and gender-expansive learners
MN READ Act training
Commitment to the Northern Lights’ Mission and Vision
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
Reggio Emilia approach to education
Place-based learning
Practices of Finnish education
Constructivist approach to education
Urban teaching experience
Project-based learning experience
Restorative practices experience
Dual licensure in any two content areas, Special Education, ESL, Counseling, Social Work or other relevant field

Basic functions and responsibilities
Plan and implement effective instruction and assessment aligned with our pedagogical pillars, driven by student inquiry, and aligned with state standards across content areas
Collaborate with a Special Rights co-teacher and other Special Rights staff to plan for and provide support, accommodations and instruction in alignment with students’ IEPs
Collaborate with students, families and colleagues in support of students and our community
Document and share student learning and experiences in weekly newsletters and visual displays
Lead the development of classroom cultures that foster relationships, student learning, student inquiry, critical thinking and advocacy
Facilitate family/teacher conferences twice per year
Attend four after school all-school events per year
Plan and facilitate off-site learning experiences for students throughout the year
Advocate with, and on behalf of, students and families
Monitor and share student progress, educationally and socially, to students and families
Implement restorative practices to address conflict
Monitor students in and out of the classroom/school building
Attend and engage in staff meetings, professional development trainings, and professional collaboration time
Seek, reflect on and learn from feedback
Support the operational work of the school
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
The minimum rate of pay for this position is $41,000 annually and increases with experience.
A $10,000 longevity bonus is awarded after every 4th year of employment.
Benefits include medical insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance, paid time off, and participation in the state pension plan.
Employee work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:00, on days scheduled in the Board-approved calendar.
