POSITION: STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST (GRADES 6-8) – (FTE 1.0)
LOCATION: MINNESOTA VIRTUAL SCHOOLS
Description: The Student Support Specialist (6-8) is responsible to collaborate with teachers, directors and other administrative personnel to provide the highest caliber of services to our middle school students. The Support Specialist will work to maximize school success for students by impacting their personal, social and emotional needs at home, school and in the community.
Job Summary:
- Assess student functioning, both formally and informally, identifying factors that may negatively impact his or her education while also assessing student strengths.
- Promote consistent school attendance.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams, and provide consultation to school personnel regarding home, neighborhood and community conditions that may affect student well-being.
- Participate in events promoting middle school community, including advisory.
- Demonstrate knowledge of district, state and federal policies, including due process guidelines and child abuse/neglect reporting.
- Coordinate with county agencies to file for truancy.
- Maintain records in a manner consistent with district practices.
- Work efficiently, cooperatively, and effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment and with a variety of groups including students, parents, general education staff, behavior specialists, and outside agencies
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Work well with persons of different cultures, races, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Develop program components to meet student needs on a continual basis.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, schools, parents, and outside agencies about students'' needs utilizing these linkages to develop effective school program components.
- Participate in child study meetings as necessary.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience providing services in a virtual environment
- Ability to work with a wide variety of students in a calm, patient, understanding, creative, flexible, student-centered environment
- Skill in planning, organizing and writing evaluations in a multi-disciplinary team within timeline constraints
- Good human relation skills, team player and professional demeanor
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Proficient with basic computer programs including but not limited to Google and Microsoft Office products
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information at all times.
Hours:
M-F, regular school hours
*Although the position does have some opportunities to work remotely, candidates should know that there will be required times on a regular basis to report to either or school offices in Roseville or at times our district offices in South Minneapolis.
Compensation:
$28.65 - $32.20, depending on experience
