Position Title: Hmong Performing Arts Teacher Salary Range: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 Reports To: Chief Hmong Officer Status: Exempt, Full-Time 40+ hours a week Contract Type: 10 month contract ABOUT THIS ROLE The Hmong Performing Arts Elementary Teacher is a culturally grounded, standards-aligned educator who delivers high-quality performing arts instruction to elementary scholars while intentionally infusing Hmong cultural traditions, history, and artistic expression into every area of the performing arts curriculum. This position serves as both an arts educator and a cultural ambassador, ensuring that Hmong heritage is honored, visible, and celebrated throughout the learning environment. Instruction is guided by the Minnesota K?12 Arts Standards across all performing arts disciplines, visual art, music, choir, theater, and dance, while weaving in Hmong textile arts (paj ntaub), traditional music and instruments, oral storytelling, ceremonial dance forms, and other cultural arts practices. This role is integral to HOPE''s mission of embracing Hmong language and culture alongside high academic achievement. PRIMARY DUTIES Culturally Integrated Performing Arts Instruction. Plan and deliver rigorous, engaging fine arts instruction aligned to Minnesota K?12 Arts Standards across visual art, music, theater, and dance. Intentionally and authentically infuse Hmong cultural arts into every discipline?including paj ntaub (story cloth) and textile traditions, kwv txhiaj (traditional sung poetry), qeej (bamboo pipe music) and other instruments, traditional dance forms, and oral storytelling?ensuring Hmong artistic heritage is embedded in, not supplementary to, core fine arts learning. Minnesota Performing Arts Standards Alignment. Design and implement unit plans and lesson sequences that fully address the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts, including creating, performing/presenting/producing, responding, and connecting strands across all four fine arts disciplines. Maintain documentation of standards coverage, assessments, and student growth data. Cultural Community & Family Engagement. Actively partner with Hmong community members, elders, and cultural practitioners to enrich classroom programming with authentic cultural knowledge. Engage families as co-educators in preserving and sharing Hmong artistic traditions. Plan and participate in cultural showcases, school events, and community arts performances that celebrate scholar growth and Hmong heritage. Assessment & Data-Informed Practice. Use formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor scholar progress across all fine arts standards. Maintain accurate records and use data to differentiate instruction, communicate progress to families, and contribute to school-wide academic goals. Participate in instructional planning meetings, PLCs, and school-wide data cycles. Classroom Culture & Scholar Support. Build a joyful, inclusive, and high-expectation learning environment where all scholars feel a sense of belonging and cultural pride. Implement HOPE''s behavioral expectations and restorative practices. Support social-emotional learning through arts integration and affirm all scholars'' cultural and artistic identities. Professional Collaboration & Growth. Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate fine arts and cultural learning across content areas. Participate in professional development, school leadership activities, and HOPE''s strategic priorities. Engage in reflective practice and seek ongoing growth in both fine arts pedagogy and culturally responsive instruction. REQUIREMENTS Licenses & Education Valid Minnesota teaching license in K?12 Visual/Performing Arts and/or Music, or K?12 dance/Theater (required); additional licensure areas a plus. Bachelor''s degree in Performing/Fine Arts, Arts Education, or a related field required; Master''s degree preferred. Licensed or eligible for licensure in Minnesota; must meet all MDE requirements. Experience Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in fine arts at the elementary level preferred. Demonstrated experience incorporating culturally responsive practices into arts instruction. Experience working with Hmong students, families, or communities strongly preferred. Knowledge of and experience with Hmong artistic traditions (paj ntaub, qeej, traditional dance, oral storytelling, etc.) highly valued. Knowledge, Skills & Attributes Deep knowledge of Minnesota K?12 Academic Standards in the Arts across all fine arts disciplines. Strong understanding of Hmong culture, history, and artistic heritage; proficiency or fluency in Hmong language (White Hmong or Green Hmong) preferred. Ability to design integrated, culturally affirming arts curriculum that meets standards while honoring Hmong traditions. Strong classroom management skills and ability to build a joyful, high-expectation learning environment. Excellent collaboration, communication, and family-engagement skills. Commitment to educational equity, cultural responsiveness, and HOPE''s mission and values. Ability to work effectively with scholars, families, and staff of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Experience with student data platforms (Infinite Campus, EDUClimber, or similar) preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT Duties are primarily performed in classroom, studio, and performance spaces within a multi-level, accessible school building. The role involves regular movement throughout the building to support scholars and collaborate with colleagues. The environment may include exposure to sound-intensive settings (music rooms, gymnasiums, performance spaces). Some evening hours may be required for arts showcases, cultural events, and family engagement activities. This position requires occasional lifting of art supplies and equipment. ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Hmong Performing Arts Elementary Teacher is a culturally grounded, standards-aligned educator who delivers high-quality performing arts instruction to elementary scholars while intentionally infusing Hmong cultural traditions, history, and artistic expression into every area of the performing arts curriculum. This position serves as both an arts educator and a cultural ambassador, ensuring that Hmong heritage is honored, visible, and celebrated throughout the learning environment.

 

Instruction is guided by the Minnesota K–12 Arts Standards across all performing arts disciplines, visual art, music, choir, theater, and dance, while weaving in Hmong textile arts (paj ntaub), traditional music and instruments, oral storytelling, ceremonial dance forms, and other cultural arts practices. This role is integral to HOPE''s mission of embracing Hmong language and culture alongside high academic achievement.

 PRIMARY DUTIES

Culturally Integrated Performing Arts Instruction. Plan and deliver rigorous, engaging fine arts instruction aligned to Minnesota K–12 Arts Standards across visual art, music, theater, and dance. Intentionally and authentically infuse Hmong cultural arts into every discipline—including paj ntaub (story cloth) and textile traditions, kwv txhiaj (traditional sung poetry), qeej (bamboo pipe music) and other instruments, traditional dance forms, and oral storytelling—ensuring Hmong artistic heritage is embedded in, not supplementary to, core fine arts learning.

 REQUIREMENTS

Licenses & Education

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in K–12 Visual/Performing Arts and/or Music, or K–12 dance/Theater (required); additional licensure areas a plus.
  • Bachelor''s degree in Performing/Fine Arts, Arts Education, or a related field required; Master''s degree preferred.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Minnesota; must meet all MDE requirements.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in fine arts at the elementary level preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience incorporating culturally responsive practices into arts instruction.
  • Experience working with Hmong students, families, or communities strongly preferred.
