Position Title: High School Special Education-DCD Teacher FLSA Status: Exempt FTE: 1.0 Start Date: 08/19/2026 Job Summary: Under the direction of the Building Principal and Special Education Administration, the Licensed Special Education Teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans and presenting district curriculum in assigned instructional subjects. This will include classroom instruction, frequent evaluation and assessment of student learning and progress, and collaborating with other professionals as needed to address student needs. The Licensed Special Education Teacher is responsible for meeting the legal requirements of all Due Process tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Instructional Planning Develop instructional unit plans, lesson plans, and performance tasks using district approved curricular resources. Assess student needs and abilities to determine instructional methods and techniques. Incorporate technology into lesson planning. Classroom Instruction: Provide instruction at appropriate levels according to district guidelines and state standards. Assess student progress and adjust instructional plans as needed. Utilize various teaching techniques to meet student needs and district learning outcomes. Student Evaluation: Develop and grade assessments to evaluate student performance. Collect, analyze, and use data to make informed decisions Conduct parent-teacher conferences to discuss student progress. Enter and maintain accurate grade records. Classroom Management: Utilize special education tiered systems and structures to support behaviors that are presented during instructional and non-instructional times. Gather data related to student behaviors in order to make student-centered decisions. Collaborate with and provide direction to classroom paraeducators and volunteers. Collaboration: Collaborate with general education teachers, paraeducators, and other team members in order to best meet the needs of the whole child. Engage in building and/or district committees and learning opportunities in order to demonstrate continuous growth. Communication: Provide clear expectations to students. Communicate with students and families about student progress. Be an active and engaged participant at building meetings such as Open House and parent-teacher conferences. Due Process Meet all legal requirements for Special Education Due Process Professional Development: Stay updated on trends, theories, and technologies in education. Consult with other educators regarding best practices for meeting the needs of students with disabilities while also maintaining high expectations. Participate in staff development activities. Work-Based Learning and Transition Skills Work with high school students to ensure transition needs are met. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as required. Education and Experience Requirements: Degree: Bachelor''s Degree from an accredited university in Education or relevant instructional subject area. License: Licensed teachers in the State of MN with appropriate licensure for assigned areas of responsibility or proof of pending approved licensure. Developmentally Cognitively Delayed (DCD) license preferred. Preference for Teacher Coordinator of Work-Based Learning license Experience: Prior successful experience student teaching or teaching in an urban, multicultural education setting. Salary and Benefits: Salary: Range: $46,961 - $99,695 Salary placement is based on experience and education level, as per district guidelines. Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package available including health insurance, dental insurance, TRA pension & optional 403b plan.
