6-12 English Language Arts Teacher Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, t o provide rigorous instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The goal is to move students from foundational literacy toward advanced rhetorical analysis and critical thinking. S pecifically ensuring students are "critical consumers of information" who can evaluate the credibility of digital and print sources. Essential Functions Designing and delivering daily lessons in Reading/Language Arts. Teaching students to interpret and critique a diverse range of literature (novels, poetry, drama) and informational texts (essays, technical documents, journalism). Guiding students through the stages of planning, drafting, revising, and editing for various purposes: Argue/Persuade, Inform/Explain, and Create. Providing direct instruction in grammar, orthography, and vocabulary to improve students'' oral and written expression. Data-Driven Instruction Ensuring all curriculum meets the 2 020 Minnesota K?12 Academic Standards in ELA, which emphasize "taking in," "sharing," and "exchanging ideas." Administering and analyzing data from state exams (MCA) and district benchmarks to adjust instruction for struggling readers or advanced learners. Facilitating "Exchanging Ideas" through Socratic seminars, debates, and collaborative presentations. Selecting texts that represent diverse perspectives, identities, and cultures to meet state cultural competency requirements. Teaching safe and responsible use of technology for research and digital storytelling. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of secondary english education curriculum and concepts. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Work in standard office and school building environments. Certification/License: 6-12 English License Education: Masters Degree required. Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
