JOB SUMMARY Monticello High School seeks a dynamic, motivated, and passionate instrumental music educator to join a collaborative music team, teaching 9th-12th grade musicians. The successful candidate will direct and assist the overall high school instrumental music program. Candidate will also provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensures compliance with all state and district requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Direct high school instrumental performances including concert bands, jazz bands, sectionals, percussion ensembles, and other small ensembles. Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, solo/ensemble contests, pep band performances, pep fests, and community events. Create learning environments that are appropriate for all students with varying level of skills. Assess students'' developmental, cognitive, and social needs, and provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs; establish differentiated instruction and expectations for students. Maintain and update accurate and complete records of students'' progress and development, as required by laws and district policies; regularly communicate necessary information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs; prepare required reports on students and activities. Work cooperatively with others to maintain an accurate inventory of school-owned instruments and uniforms; including the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; make adjustments and repairs to instruments, as required. Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings; establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds. Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails. Comply with all federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, MSHSL rules, and Board of Education policies. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Required Knowledge: District policies and procedures. Curriculum requirements and learning objectives. 2018 MN State Fine Arts standards. State and Federal laws and regulatory issues governing public education, including rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of Education. Legal, ethical, and professional rules of conduct for public education teachers. Principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations. Computer applications related to the work. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Required Skills: Developing and maintaining a public education learning environment in which positive, appropriate behavior is encouraged, and discipline problems are minimized. Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities. Performing assigned responsibilities in a manner consistent with the District''s established Core Values.
