Physical Education & Ropes Course Instructor (Project Adventure / Middle School Wellness) About The Role Breck School is seeking a Physical Education & Ropes Course Instructor to join our Middle School Wellness team. This is a unique, highly supportive opportunity specifically designed to foster an early-to-mid career educator''s professional growth within a formal independent school environment. Rather than teaching in isolation, you will operate within a fully collaborative co-teaching model, partnering directly alongside a veteran faculty member to deliver a structured physical education, adventure, and resilience curriculum. Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas PE Classroom Management: Work as a unified team to co-manage, instruct, and supervise groups of 20?30 middle school students. You must maintain a high level of situational awareness, absolute behavioral control, and emotional safety in a dynamic, high-stimulus environment, adhering to school-day behavior expectations. Intentional Facilitation & Pedagogy: This program goes far beyond recreational climbing. As an educator, you will actively facilitate low-ropes initiatives, structured reflection, and academic debriefing to turn challenge activities into meaningful, real-world lessons on leadership and resilience. Technical Safety & Risk Management: Act as a qualified Ropes Course Instructor, maintaining strong technical expertise and strict adherence to ACCT safety standards during course facilitation. Fully Funded Professional Growth: At Breck, we are deeply invested in your professional mastery. We fully fund all ongoing professional recertifications and will send you to annual Project Adventure and ACCT training to expand your skill set. Prefered Qualifications & Requirements Educational Background: A Bachelor?s degree in Physical Education, Experiential Education, or a closely related pedagogical field is highly preferred. Instructional Experience: Proven experience as a Physical Education Teacher or formal instructor managing youth groups in a structured, compulsory educational setting. Technical Skillset: Proven experience acting as a Ropes Course Instructor (low/high ropes) with a strong baseline comfort with technical rigging and safety protocols. Command Presence: A strong, authoritative yet supportive teaching presence with a genuine passion for mentoring middle school adolescents through a critical developmental stage.
