POSITION SUMMARY
The Paraprofessional at Exploration High School provides direct support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) so that every learner can fully access our High-Quality Project-Based Learning (HQPBL) and competency-based model. Paraprofessionals work under the supervision of the Special Education Director to implement IEP accommodations and modifications, support positive behavior, promote student independence, and contribute to a safe, joyful, inclusive learning environment.

SCHEDULE & TIME ALLOCATION
There are 185 contracted days, as outlined in theSchool Calendar. In a standard 5-day school week, the Employee’s duties are distributed as follows:
· 1 hour staff meeting weekly.
· 2.5 hours of duty-free lunch time. (30 minutes each day)
· Maximum of 34 hours of paraprofessional duties working with students with IEPs.
· Minimum of 2.5 hours of school/building duties, as assigned.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with IEPs across classroom, project, and community-based learning settings.
· Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports outlined in student IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), under the direction of the Special Education Teacher.
· Collect data on student progress (academic, behavioral, social-emotional) and communicate observations to the Special Education Teacher in a timely manner.
· Promote student independence, self-advocacy, and inclusion — minimizing prompting and supporting students to engage in HQPBL alongside their peers.
· Support de-escalation and positive behavior strategies consistent with ExHS restorative practices and any training received; follow MN Stat §125A.0941–0942 requirements regarding restraint and seclusion.
· Assist with personal care, mobility, or health-related supports as specified in student IEPs and permitted by training.
· Maintain continuous student supervision during assigned periods, including lunch, transitions, hallways, and building duties.
· Maintain confidentiality of all student information in compliance with FERPA, the MN Government Data Practices Act, and ExHS policy.
· Serve as a mandated reporter under the Staff Handbook and Minn. Stat §626.556.
· Participate in staff meetings, required trainings, and professional learning.
ANY OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Perform any other duties as reasonably assigned by the Executive Director or designated supervisor in support of students, families, staff, and the mission of Exploration High School.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree, 60 college credits, or a passing score on a state-approved paraprofessional assessment preferred.
· Minnesota paraprofessional requirements met (or willingness to complete them on hire), including any PELSB-required paraprofessional training.
· Prior experience supporting students with special needs in a K–12 setting is preferred.
· Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a calm, consistent presence with adolescents.
· Training in de-escalation, crisis response, and mandated reporting (or willingness to complete).
· Successful completion of background check and I-9 verification.

· Occasionally assist with student mobility, adaptive equipment, or de-escalation — following training and ExHS protocol.
· Occasionally lift, push, or carry materials up to 25 pounds.
· Occasional evening or weekend work for IEP meetings, SLCs, and school events.
