Position: Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) Teacher
Hours or FTE: 1.0 FTE Starting Date: August 18, 2026
Job Description: The Stewartville Public Schools Special Education Department is seeking a Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) Teacher to provide specialized physical education services for students with disabilities from PreK through 12th grade. The DAPE teacher is responsible for conducting motor assessments, determining eligibility for adapted physical education services, developing and implementing individualized physical education programs, and monitoring student progress toward IEP goals. Working as a related service provider, the DAPE teacher collaborates closely with families, special education staff, general education physical education teachers, and administrators to ensure students have equitable access to physical education through appropriate adaptations, accommodations, and specialized instruction. The successful candidate will promote motor skill development, physical fitness, recreation and leisure skills, independence, and lifelong healthy habits while creating safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments that enable every student to participate meaningfully in physical activity and achieve their fullest potential.
Qualifications/Degree:
- Education: Bachelor''s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
- Licensure: Valid Minnesota Teaching Licensure in Physical Education, Health, and Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE).
Job Requirements:
To successfully perform the essential functions of this role, candidates must meet the following physical and technical requirements:
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, jog, and actively demonstrate physical activities or sports for long periods throughout the school day.
- Mobility & Lifting: Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift/move up to 40 pounds (assisting students with equipment, transfers, or positioning as needed).
- Technical Skills: Proficient computer skills, email, and digital progress tracking.
- Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse student populations, families, and multidisciplinary school teams
Beginning Salary Range: Per the Stewartville United Educators'' Master Agreement
