Our purpose is to provide a unique and stimulating education environment where students are encouraged ? to explore their potential, discover their brilliance and develop their intellect. With a lens of equity and unconditional positive regard, Promise Fellows mentor and support middle school youth during this pivotal developmental period. At LJA, we are committed to serving a diverse population of students and families. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES The LJA Math Tutor is an integral part of our community of educators. As a trusted adult, you will: - Build and foster strong relationships with LJA students. - Provide targeted and specific tutoring to individual or small groups of scholars in grades 5-8 - Meet regularly with the LJA ADSIS team to review data and track student progress - With the guidance of the ADSIS team, determine which interventions will best engage and facilitate growth for individual students or small groups of students. - Participate in all required Alliance, AmeriCorps, and Host Site meetings and assignments. - Understand and model LJA principles with scholars, families and staff - Communicate with staff and scholars in an on-going and timely basis regarding scholar progress and achievement on academic and non-academic goals. AmeriCorps/AMPACT Qualifications - Interest and experience in youth, service, education, and non-profit work - Ability to deal effectively with a variety of tasks, priorities, and people in order to meet goals - Ability to work effectively with people of a variety of backgrounds and cultures - Self-motivated, able to work in a team, take initiative and work independently - Ability to present oneself in a highly professional manner and be an ambassador of the program - 18 years or older - A high school graduate with a diploma or GED - A U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or a Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States - Not have served more than the allowed number of AmeriCorps terms previous to this term.
