POSITION DETAILS Start Date: ASAP, 2026-2027 School Year Hours : 7:30am-3:30pm Duty Days: 179 Grade Levels Supported: 5-8 grades ROLE OBJECTIVES The School Health Assistant supports the health, safety, and well-being of students by maintaining an organized and efficient health services office. This role provides care and assessment for ill or injured students within the scope of First Aid certification, administers medications as directed, maintains accurate health records and immunizations, and follows individual health care plans. The School Health Assistant communicates with parents, staff, and students as needed, ensures a clean and safe environment, and upholds confidentiality and school health policies to promote a healthy and secure learning environment. KEY DUTIES Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and sanitary health services room in accordance with established best practices. Obtain, maintain, and update student health records, including immunization records and required health documentation. Maintain current First Aid and CPR/AED certification. Maintain student confidentiality and comply with applicable HIPAA, FERPA, state and federal requirements, and school policies. Assess and care for ill or injured students within the scope of training and certification. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student illness, injury, medication, or other health concerns as appropriate. Contact parents/guardians or emergency contacts when a student needs to be picked up due to illness or injury. Administer medications in accordance with school policies, provider orders, parent/guardian authorization, and individual health care plans. Follow individual health care plans and emergency action plans as appropriate. Accurately document health office visits, medications, treatments, and parent/guardian communications. Serve as backup to the school front office as needed, including answering phones, greeting and assisting students, families, and visitors, and supporting attendance, dismissal, and general clerical responsibilities. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling student, family, and health information. Collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and families. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or building Principal. REQUIREMENTS Educational Qualifications: H.S. Diploma, Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate, Certified Nursing Assistant preferred Required Work Experience in Addition to Formal Education/Training: Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, healthcare, or similar setting preferred. Experience providing basic first aid, responding to illness or injury, maintaining confidential records, communicating with parents/guardians, and performing general administrative or front office duties is beneficial. Experience working with middle school-aged students and supporting individuals with health care plans or medication needs is preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, and respond calmly and appropriately to routine and emergency situations. Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job: Working knowledge of basic student health services, first aid, CPR/AED, infection prevention, sanitation practices, and procedures for responding to student illness and injury. Knowledge of medication administration procedures, student health and immunization record requirements, and the implementation of individual health care and emergency action plans. Understanding of student privacy and confidentiality requirements, including applicable HIPAA, FERPA, state and federal regulations, and school policies. Ability to recognize situations requiring additional medical attention or parent/guardian notification and to respond appropriately within the scope of training and certification. Requires effective communication, organization, documentation, and basic computer and office skills. Must be able to interact professionally and compassionately with middle school-aged students, families, staff, and visitors. Working knowledge of general school front office procedures is also required in order to provide backup support, including answering phones, assisting visitors, supporting attendance and dismissal procedures, maintaining accurate records, and handling confidential student and family information. BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION Pay Range: $35,000/yr or higher based on experience.
