Start Your Online Application Now Date Closing: Until Filled Spartan Track and Field (St. James/Madelia Cooperative) Stipend: $4,356 Season: Spring Job Summary The Head Track and Field Coach provides leadership for the Spartans Cooperative track and field program serving St. James Public Schools and Madelia Public Schools. The coach creates a safe, inclusive, educational, and competitive experience for student-athletes; develops skills, character, teamwork, and sportsmanship; and coordinates a unified program consistent with cooperative, district, conference, and Minnesota State High School League expectations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Leadership and Responsibilities Plan, organize, and lead a safe, developmentally appropriate, and competitive track and field program across participating schools and grade levels. Teach track and field fundamentals, event-specific techniques, competition strategy, conditioning, safety, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and respect. Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, locker-room use, facility use, and other team activities. Recruit, select, supervise, mentor, coordinate, and evaluate assistant and lower-level coaches in collaboration with the Activities Director. Establish a unified coaching philosophy, program expectations, and positive team culture across St. James Public Schools and Madelia Public Schools. Communicate clearly and consistently with student-athletes, families, assistant coaches, officials, school personnel, and administrators from both member districts. Promote academic progress, student eligibility, inclusive participation, positive behavior, leadership, and student well-being. Follow MSHSL, conference, cooperative, district, and school policies, procedures, eligibility requirements, and coaching expectations. Provide age-appropriate instruction, conditioning, safety education, individualized feedback, and appropriate support for student-athletes across event areas. Follow concussion, injury, heat, emergency-action, return-to-play, mandated-reporting, and student-safety procedures. Coordinate schedules, facilities, meet administration, transportation, rosters, entries, statistics, and program communication with the Activities Director and member-district administrators. Manage uniforms, equipment, implements, meet supplies, facility needs, inventories, and cooperative program resources responsibly. Develop alignment across the 7?12 program, coordinate feeder relationships and offseason expectations, and promote participation in both member-district communities. Complete required training, meetings, reports, inventories, awards, evaluations, and end-of-season responsibilities while maintaining student privacy and professional conduct. Perform other program-related duties as assigned by the Activities Director. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises assistant, junior varsity, C-squad, junior high, volunteer, and other program coaches as assigned. Supervises student-athletes and team support personnel during all program activities. Qualifications Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of track and field fundamentals, event techniques, coaching methods, safety practices, and student development. Prior successful coaching, playing, teaching, or youth-leadership experience. Demonstrated ability to communicate, organize, supervise, collaborate across schools, and build positive relationships. Preferred Qualifications Licensed educator. Prior varsity or head-coaching experience in track and field. Experience coordinating a comprehensive 7?12 or cooperative athletic program. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Meets all Minnesota State High School League, cooperative, and district coaching certification and training requirements. Current First Aid, CPR, AED, concussion, and emergency-care training as required. Physical Requirements Ability to demonstrate skills, communicate effectively, use required technology, and maintain active student supervision. Ability to stand and move for extended periods and to lift, carry, set up, and store track and field equipment and implements. Ability to respond to injuries and emergencies, travel with the team, and perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Work Environment Work occurs at practices, meets, locker rooms, buses, school facilities, and outdoor venues.
