Position Summary
The Building Substitute Teacher at Star of the North Academy is responsible for providing classroom coverage and maintaining a safe, positive, and productive learning environment when the regular teacher is absent. The substitute follows lesson plans, supports student learning, maintains classroom expectations, and collaborates with school staff to ensure continuity of instruction. The Building Substitute Teacher reports to their assigned Direct Report.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Follow assigned lesson plans, curriculum, and classroom procedures.
· Provide instruction and support student learning across K-8 grade levels and subject areas.
· Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment.
· Take accurate attendance and maintain appropriate student records.
· Provide appropriate academic support and assistance to students as needed.
· Monitor student progress and communicate relevant concerns to the classroom teacher or school leadership.
· Support school activities, supervision duties, and other assignments as needed.
Qualifications
· Bachelor''s degree in Education or a related field.
· Substitute teaching license or authorization as required by Minnesota regulations.
· Experience working with children or in a school setting preferred.
· Strong communication, classroom-management, organization, and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and learning needs.
Preferred
· Previous substitute teaching, paraprofessional, or classroom experience.
· Experience working in a public charter school.
· Experience supporting multilingual learners or students receiving special education services.
· Familiarity with educational technology and student information systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Strong classroom-management and student-supervision skills.
· Ability to follow lesson plans and maintain instructional continuity.
· Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to adapt quickly to different grade levels, subjects, and classroom environments.
· Professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and accountability.
· Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
Compensation
Star of the North Academy''s salary for this position is competitive and based on prior experience. In addition, Star of the North Academy offers a benefits plan that includes medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, Sick time, and other incentives.
