This position will serve Grade 5 students at Hastings Middle School beginning November 12, 2026, and anticipated to last approximately two months. General Duties / Essential Functions Provide classroom instruction in Grade 5 Mathematics and Science consistent with district curriculum and Minnesota academic standards. Develop and implement lesson plans, instructional materials, investigations, and learning experiences that promote mathematical reasoning, scientific inquiry, problem solving, and critical thinking. Provide instruction at appropriate levels of rigor while differentiating instruction to meet the academic and developmental needs of individual students. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology, manipulatives, scientific investigations, and hands-on learning experiences to actively engage students. Conduct ongoing formative and summative assessment of student learning and use assessment data to adjust instruction, provide intervention, and extend learning. Provide individualized and small-group instruction as needed to support students in accessing core instruction. Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, organized, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student responsibility, cooperation, curiosity, and perseverance. Maintain established classroom routines and instructional continuity throughout the leave replacement assignment. Organize and maintain accurate systems for grading, attendance, student progress, and other required documentation in accordance with district procedures. Communicate effectively and proactively with students and parents/guardians regarding student progress, strengths, concerns, and opportunities for growth. Collaborate closely with Grade 5 teammates, content-area colleagues, special education staff, interventionists, and building administration to coordinate instruction and student supports. Participate in grade-level team meetings, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, student-support meetings, and other building activities as appropriate. Support students'' academic, social, emotional, interpersonal, and ethical growth as members of the Hastings Middle School community. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or district administrators. Required Qualifications / Licensure Valid Minnesota teaching license appropriate for teaching Grade 5 Mathematics and Science . Bachelor''s degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment. Education & Experience Bachelor''s degree required. Master''s degree in a related area preferred. Successful prior teaching experience at the upper-elementary or middle school level preferred. Preferred Qualifications Strong knowledge base and experience in elementary or middle-level mathematics and science instruction. Previous experience working with Grade 5 or middle school students. Evidence of strong relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues. Experience providing highly engaging, hands-on, and authentic math and science learning experiences. Strong commitment to effective instructional practices, including: Team planning and collaboration Standards-aligned instruction Differentiation for diverse learners Formative assessment and data-informed instruction Inquiry-based and problem-based learning Ability to enter an established instructional program and provide consistency and continuity for students throughout the leave period. Commitment to supporting students'' academic, social, emotional, interpersonal, and ethical growth. Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of current mathematics and science instructional practices and educational pedagogy. Knowledge of Grade 5 student development and the academic, social, and emotional needs of early adolescents. Ability to present mathematical and scientific concepts in engaging, understandable, and developmentally appropriate ways. Ability to design and utilize assessments, analyze student performance, and adjust instruction based on student needs. Ability to differentiate instruction for a wide range of learners, including students receiving special education, multilingual learner, and intervention services. Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to effectively utilize district technology, learning management systems, student information systems, and instructional applications. Ability to establish positive and productive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and support staff. Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a Grade 5 team and broader professional learning community. Ability to engage in reflection, feedback, and continuous professional growth. Equipment Uses standard classroom, mathematics, science, technology, and office equipment, including instructional technology, computers, printers, copy machines, scientific materials, manipulatives, and other curriculum-related resources. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings, professional meetings, and district activities as required. Physical & Mental Demands / Work Hazards Work is performed in standard classroom, laboratory, school, and office environments. Position requires regular interaction with students, staff, and families and the ability to manage multiple instructional and supervisory responsibilities.
