Community School of Excellence (CSE) is a Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade Hmong Language and Culture Charter school that is a family. Job Summary
The position will be responsible for providing a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff by following appropriate regulations, procedures, and plans to ensure safe and secure school facilities during and after school hours and all related school functions. This position will also assist in coordinating all transportation services for the school. This position will report directly to the Chief Operations Director.
Responsibilities
Building Safety and Security (55%)
* Provide customer service for all guests, families and students that enter the school building
* Monitors the security desk
* Check in and out all guests that enter the school building: sign in/out, follow security protocols for guests,
* Checks in all students that enter/leave the building - late students, students leaving the building
* Support in the coordination of all state required drills and emergency planning and procedures
* Supports in maintaining and updating the emergency operation manual and ensures that everyone has knowledge of the processes
* Assist staff, law enforcement and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations
* Provides incident response and reports on all safety related incident/s
* Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Student Safety (30%)
* Member of Crisis and CPI team as well as Health and Wellness team and Emergency Medical Response Team.
* Monitor hallways, stairwells, restrooms, and surrounding school premises to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff and building facility
* Monitor student activities on school premises. Check for student hall passes and tardy slips.
* Monitor and escort students, parents, and guests as needed or requested.
* Ensure facility is properly secured each day and evening
* Monitor and escort unauthorized visitors out of building or to the administration office
* Perform security functions at all school events
* Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Coordinating Transportation (5%)
* Monitor the departure of school buses to ensure that students depart safely
* Ensure that students are on the appropriate buses in the afternoon/at dismissal.
* Perform other duties as assigned
Position Specifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* Bilingual in English and Hmong, Karen or Karenni preferred
* Experience and aptitude working with young children
* High level of patience and ability to calmly and clearly redirect and guide young children
* Demonstrated multi-cultural experience and ability to communicate with limited-English speakers
* Demonstrates superior judgment in all aspects of work.
* Ability to meet deadlines and hold oneself accountable to meeting deadlines.
* Ability to multi-task and handle high volume of interruptions
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also being a strong team player.
* Familiarity and comfort with electronic forms of communication, including ready access and responsiveness to e-mail correspondence.
Qualifications
* High school degree required.
* Associates degree or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (law enforcement major preferred) preferred
* Minimum of (2) years of law enforcement or security experiences (school setting preferred) but willing to train
* Valid driver’s license with no serious violations
* Ability to de-escalate conflict, problem solve and ensure orderly student behavior and take appropriate action to defuse any actions that may initiate a confrontation
* Knowledge of Hmong culture and issues facing Southeast Asian communities, especially Hmong families. Commitment to building the strengths of immigrant/refugee families.
