Job Summary
Activities directors (ADs) generally oversee all aspects of an athletic and after school activity programs, including hiring coaches, site supervisors, scheduling, budget preparation, promotion, compliance, and facility management. So, if you are an organized person who thrives in a position of leadership and enjoys sports, activities, enrichment, after school events, and clubs, a career as an activities director may be a good fit for you.
Activity directors typically enjoy working with coaches and athletes and activity programs to help individuals/teams reach their potential. Whereas coaches carry out a team's day-to-day preparation, activity directors take pride in the behind-the-scenes work, which puts teams in a position to succeed.
Responsibilities
* Manages athletic and after school activity events (e.g. facility set-up/clean-up, schedule transportation, schedule officials, schedule seasons, oversee practice schedules, and activity functions, etc) for the purpose of ensuring venues are prepared to allow for successful events.
* Performs personnel administrative functions of coach and advisor staff: hiring, counseling, training, supervising and evaluating.
* Maintain a budget for interscholastic athletic and activity programs.
* Ensure that all participants have a physical examination and insurance verifications per school policy.
* Be present or arrange for a school representative for all home games, and assign a coach to assume responsibility at all away games.
* Arrange for officials or judges for all interscholastic events and make arrangements for payment of officials.
* Schedule the use of all athletic and activity facilities and fields for games and practices.
* Arrange for employees for all home games or activities including timekeepers, scorekeepers, judges, line judges, etc.
* Communicate and document medical and emergency procedures and arrange for the availability of medical supplies at all home activities.
* Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned.
Qualifications
* Preferred - Administrative License/Certification
* Experience in coaching, advising activity groups
* Demonstrated management, leadership and human relations skills
* Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions and work independently
* Proven ability to carry an assignment to its completion
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Knowledge of sports and activity rules and regulations

Physical Abilities
* Sitting for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally, bending at the waist and kneeling or crouching to retrieve files from cabinets and shelves; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or by telephone; seeing to read a variety of materials; lifting light objects.
