Community School of Excellence (CSE) is a Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade Hmong Language and Culture Charter school that is a family. Job Summary
The special education teacher provides a broad range of teaching and direct instructional services assisting students to develop skills needed as a foundation for future learning in accordance with each student’s ability. Successful performance includes using a variety of teaching and learning methods for various levels of learning.
Responsibilities
* Delivers classroom and individualized instruction to actively engage students with meaningful learning experiences.
* Prepares instruction and lesson plans related to individualized goals and IEP objectives.
* Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying abilities.
* Creates a positive environment where students are encouraged to be active self-advocates.
* Ensures that student growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification
* Communicates with, assists, and organizes the work of educational assistants working in program areas.
* Supports Positive Behavior Interventions (PBIS)
* Develops evaluation plans and uses assessment tools to determine student eligibility for specialized education
* Maintains effective and efficient student records and procedures concerning testing, behaviors, progress, and related academic information
* Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course, grade and school-wide student performance goals
* Effective written communication skills related to writing Individual Education Plans and Educational Evaluation Reports
* Models professional and ethical standards with students (including student data), parents, peers, administration, and community
* Demonstrates gains in student performance
* Actively participate in team meetings and Professional Learning Communities
* Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents and other professionals
* Values teaching in diverse cultural settings.
* Is a forward, solutions-based thinker.
* Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, classroom teachers, administration, and community
* Attends workshops, seminars, and conferences as well as staff, department, and staff development sessions.
* Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines including mandated due process timelines, honoring schedules, and coordinating
* Comprehensive understanding of federal and state special education statutes and rules
* Ability to organize and run team meetings related to due process mandates for students in special education
* Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
* A valid Minnesota Teacher's License (applicable level-area endorsements preferred).
* Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.
