Gateway STEM Academy Location: Saint Paul, MN Type: Full-Time School Year: 2026?2027 Position Summary Gateway STEM Academy, a K?8 charter school in Saint Paul, MN, is seeking a passionate and culturally responsive Middle School Social Studies Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire students in grades 6?8 to think critically about history, civics, geography, and current events, while fostering an understanding of the social forces that shape our world. This role requires a strong commitment to inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary connections, and culturally relevant pedagogy that empowers all learners. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned social studies lessons in areas such as U.S. history, world history, geography, and civics. Foster critical thinking and discussion through primary sources, project-based learning, debates, and simulations. Create a classroom culture that values multiple perspectives, encourages civic engagement, and connects past events to current issues. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and cultural needs of students. Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Integrate literacy, writing, and research skills into the social studies curriculum. Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum across content areas and support interdisciplinary learning. Maintain high expectations for student engagement, behavior, and academic growth. Communicate regularly with families to support student success and build strong school-home partnerships. Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school-wide initiatives aimed at continuous improvement. Qualifications Bachelor?s degree in Social Studies, History, Education, or a related field (Master?s degree preferred). Valid Minnesota teaching license in Social Studies (grades 5?12 or applicable). Experience teaching middle school students and a strong understanding of adolescent development. Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive and anti-bias education. Strong classroom management skills and ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students. Experience using data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes. Qualifications
