ROLE OBJECTIVES
The Middle School Art Teacher at STRIDE Academy inspires students in grades 5-8 to develop their artistic skills, creativity, and visual literacy through meaningful exploration of a variety of artistic media, techniques, and concepts. The teacher fosters an appreciation for art history, diverse cultures, and contemporary artistic practices while encouraging students to express their ideas, perspectives, and identities through creative work. Through engaging, standards-aligned instruction, the teacher helps students build confidence, critical thinking skills, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
KEY DUTIES
Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned art instruction that promotes creativity, artistic growth, and critical thinking.
Design lessons that introduce students to a variety of artistic media, techniques, processes, and styles.
Facilitate discussions and critiques that encourage reflection, analysis, and appreciation of artwork from diverse cultures, historical periods, and contemporary contexts.
Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative methods and provide meaningful feedback to support growth.
Incorporate technology and digital art tools, when appropriate, to enhance student learning and artistic expression.
Develop and administer an art curriculum consistent with state standards and school goals.
Maintain a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, organized, and conducive to creative exploration and student learning.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional practices to meet the diverse needs of learners, including students with special needs.
Organize and maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, grades, and portfolios as required by the school.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior that support a productive and respectful learning environment.
Manage and maintain art supplies, materials, equipment, and classroom resources.
Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), department meetings, and collaborative planning opportunities.
Support school events and activities that showcase student artwork and celebrate student achievement.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal and other administrators.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in ongoing professional development, school-based professional learning communities, and staff meetings to continuously improve instructional practices.
Work collaboratively and communicate professionally with school leadership, colleagues, students, and families to support student success and foster a positive school culture.
Meet professional obligations by honoring schedules, deadlines, and all assigned responsibilities.
Demonstrate the Standards of Effective Practice for Teachers and uphold the mission and values of STRIDE Academy.
Engage in reflective practice and seek opportunities for continuous growth as an educator.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Educational Qualifications: BA Skills and Competencies: Strong knowledge of content, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage and inspire students, and proficiency in using educational technology.
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION
Salary Range: Starting salary of $43,000 or higher based on experience Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement, and professional development opportunities.
