The Reading Center (aka Dyslexia Institute of Minnesota) is a nationally recognized nonprofit that provides specialized educational services for children and adults experiencing difficulty with reading, writing, and spelling. We are located in Rochester, but provide services throughout Minnesota, the region, and nationally. The Reading Center: (1) Provides diagnostic and educational services (testing, tutoring, classes); (2) Trains educators in the proven research-based technique based on the Orton-Gillingham approach; and (3) Increases public awareness and understanding of language learning disabilities such as dyslexia. During our 66 years of service, thousands of children and adults have benefited from the research-based, multi-sensory, phonetic approach that is the hallmark of The Reading Center’s team of specially trained tutors. We are seeking more Academic Language Therapists (i.e. tutors) to work 1:1 with Reading Center students. The position is contract and pay begins at $24/hour. Our flexible scheduling allows tutors to work as much or as little as they like – between 3 and 40 hours per week. Based on client/tutor needs, we offer tutoring services in our Rochester facility, in private homes, online, or community locations. We hold continuing education meetings once per month. Academic Language Therapists teach using the Orton-Gillingham approach exclusively. The Reading Center has been changing the lives of students for more than 66 years. Come be part of our team and help a dyslexic student learn to read. Qualifications: 1. Successful completion of The Reading Center's Basic Orton-Gillingham Training Institute. This is a 120 hour course including practicum. We offer this training throughout the year in Rochester (January-March and June) and online 4x per year. Those who wish to take the training with the intention of becoming a Reading Center tutor are eligible for tuition scholarships. 6 graduate credits are available from St. Mary’s University. 2. Competent written and oral language skills 3. Strong people skills 4. A four-year degree is preferred.
