Oversee the provision of health-related support for students attending: Non-Pubic Schools (located within district boundaries), Adventure Connection (District School-Age Care program) and Next Step (serving 18-21 year olds with disabilities). The RN works with students, parents, school, medical and social work personnel for the control and prevention of disease and for the development of optimal health and safety of each student. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. B.A. in Nursing/BSN; 2. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the MN Board of Nursing; 3. Assume responsibility for continuing education and professional staff development of others; 4. Excellent collaboration and communication skills; 5. Training and experience in behavior management; 6. Knowledge of crisis response; 7. CPR and First Aid Certification; 8. Knowledge and experience with due process procedures; 9. Valid Driver's License (in-district travel required). DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Supervisory experience; 2. Previous experience as a school nurse or public health nurse; 3. Experience working with a variety of school-aged children and parents. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 1. Provides orientation, on-going support, supervision and evaluation of LPN / ARN's and other school personnel delivering health services 2. Delegates to LPN / ARN's and other school personnel the performance of skilled nursing procedures, according to the MN Nurse Practice 3. Demonstrates knowledge of ISD #622 policies as well as state and federal laws related to school health service programs 4. Participates in research and evaluation of school health services 5. Administer medications in accordance with physicians&#8217; orders and parent authorization, using ISD 622 procedures and School Board Policy 6. Communicate medication administration policies and procedures to parents 7. Maintenance of health service records within the Campus System 8. Evaluates and follows up screening findings-vision, hearing, and growth. 9. Participates in multi-disciplinary special education teams. Completes health assessment, develops health component of the IEP (individual Education Plan) 10. Conduct weekly site visits and delegate health-related duties 11. Review registrations for Adventure Connection and identify health-related needs; provide staff education and training as needed 12. Arrange CPR and First Aid training for staff 13. Observes students for developmental and health related status 14. Maintains, evaluates and interprets health data to access and accommodate individual needs in accordance with ISD #622 and the MN Data Practices Act, HIPAA, FERPA 15. Promotes and assists in communicable disease control through immunization programs, early detection, monitoring and reporting 16. Initiates referrals to parents, school and community resources for intervention and follow-up 17. Provides on-going health counseling and health education to students and families 18. Recommends and assists with implementation of school programs to meet students&#8217; health needs, 504 plans, Individual Health Plans (IHP&#8217;s) and Emergency Care Plans (ECP&#8217;s) 19. Implements school health management protocol for students with acute and/or chronic health conditions (includes the administration of medication and other medically directed treatments) 20. Utilizes District 622 first aid guidelines and infectious disease guideline when caring for students and staff 21. Participates with the crisis intervention team for acute illness, injury and emotional crisis 22. Promotes parental skill development and learning 23. Provides support, outreach and referral to students regarding reproductive health issues, mental health concerns and substance use/abuse 24. Serves as a resource to teachers providing health information and supports employee wellness programs 25. Obtain knowledge of OSHA standards 26. Attend annual mandatory Blood Borne Pathogen Training 27. Assist legal authorities as requested by Principal 28. Attends required in-service education offerings, CPR and First Aid Training 29. Perform duties applicable and accountable to the level of education and/or licensure 30. Perform general office duties as follows: Answer phone, voice mail and e-mail; File; Record pertinent data into Campus and SpEd Forms; Order and inventory supplies bi-annually 31.
