Creating a Social-Emotional Learning Environment JOB INFORMATION Job Title: Social Worker Reports to: Business and HR Director Hours: 40 hours a week &#8211; 12-month contract Office Location: 5105 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429 Salary Range: DOE JOB DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the Business and HR Director, the Social Worker has a critical role in ensuring that scholars and families receive the necessary resources to be impactful and contributing individuals in and around the school community. This includes ensuring that the scholars and families have the necessary resources available to them in terms of scholars emotional and mental well-being including case noting and case management. The school Social Worker will also manage and coordinate all processes for county and legal issues including truancy/attendance monitoring and reporting, mandatory reporting for child neglect, child protection, child custody, and court orders protection. The Social Worker must demonstrate a strong work ethic, have integrity, and is accountable to his/her actions. He/she will align himself/herself with NMA&#8217;s core principles and understands the unique challenges of an immigrant and refugee community. A successful teacher will also have experience in a high performing fast paced environment. REQUIREMENTS &#8226; A Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Family Therapy or related field. Under the direction of the Business and HR Director, the Social Worker has a critical role in ensuring that scholars and families receive the necessary resources to be impactful and contributing individuals in and around the school community.  This includes ensuring that the scholars and families have the necessary resources available to them in terms of scholars emotional and mental well-being including case noting and case management.  The school Social Worker will also manage and coordinate all processes for county and legal issues including truancy/attendance monitoring and reporting, mandatory reporting for child neglect, child protection, child custody, and court orders protection.      

 

The Social Worker must demonstrate a strong work ethic, have integrity, and is accountable to his/her actions.  He/she will align himself/herself with NMA’s core principles and understands the unique challenges of an immigrant and refugee community.  A successful teacher will also have experience in a high performing fast paced environment.

 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

·         A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Family Therapy or related field.  Preference will be given to someone who has a Master’s Degree in related field.

·         A MN Social Work license is required.

·         3+ years of experience working with diverse, low/no income families is required

School Counseling

  • Manages high-level complex issues dealing with the emotional and mental well-being of students
  • Creates a school environment that focuses on students positive social and emotional skills through individual and group counseling
  • Implements standards for student behavior to ensure a safe, secure and effective learning environment by providing a high degree of structure, clear expectations and consistency
  • Ensures a positive and healthy relationship between students, teachers, and parents concerning students who are experiencing adjustment problems and/or behavioral difficulties in school
  • Assists students in improving conditions that effect behavior, social adjustment, and performance in school
  • Collaborates with the Impact Coaches and Director of Engagement on projects that supports students’ academic achievement – Highschool week, Girls Ascend Program, Black Students Support Group, etc.

 

Social Work

·         Manages the crisis management protocol including providing consultation to teachers around potential abuse, neglect, and maltreatment of students

·         Manages all case management including case noting and updating teachers and staff of any child protection cases and changes in custody issues

·         Assists Community Engagement Coordinator in all house visits that includes social and emotional issue

·         Be the main point of contact for teachers and staff around student and family issues

·         Fosters community relationships to build tools and resources for families

 

Tracking and Reporting

·         Tracks and monitors school attendance for truancy purposes

·         Identifies students who have attendance issues and work with Academic Coaches and Educational Leaders to develop intervention plans

·         Submit truant students to be@school and monitor weekly attendance for STAR reporting

·         Manage the mandatory reporting process including training staff and/or facilitating conversations

·         Oversee all county and law officials around student and staff interviews, investigations etc.

·         Schedule and attend home visits around truancy and attendance issues
