Position Opening: College Prep Elementary is now accepting applications for a Full-time Special Education Paraprofessional, for the 2019-2020 school year. Minimum Qualification: Must meet minimum requirements in one of three ways: Option A: Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (a minimum of 60+ semester credits); or Option B: Obtain an Associate&#8217;s (or higher) degree; Bachelor&#8217;s degree preferred or Option C: Demonstration of knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics by obtaining a passing score of 460 of an assessment from the state approved list (Ex. ParaPro Assessment) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: &#8226; Perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. &#8226; Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: age appropriate activities and stages of child development. &#8226; Perform multiple non-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. &#8226; Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate verbal and written language skills, emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved. &#8226; Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and good interpersonal skills. &#8226; Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community. &#8226; Demonstrate aptitude for the work to be performed and interest in children and education. &#8226; Ability to work with children and families from multiple cultures. &#8226; Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff. &#8226; Punctual and values the importance of attendance. &#8226; Show flexibility and adaptability to different positions, settings, etc. as needed. &#8226; Ability to work with a diversity of individual. &#8226; Ability to problem solves identified issues and select action plans. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: &#8226; Work with individual student or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified teaching staff. &#8226; Assist certified teaching staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. &#8226; Monitor and supervise curriculum-based testing, makeup work, and homework as assigned by the certified teaching staff. &#8226; Collect academic and behavior data as requested by Special Education Teacher. Confers with teachers for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students&#8217; progress and/or implementing student&#8217;s objectives. &#8226; Serve as the chief source of information and help to any guest teacher assigned in the absence of the regular certified teaching staff. &#8226; Perform assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. &#8226; Administer, under supervision, assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tub feeding, toileting, diapering, etc.) for the purpose of providing required care for assigned students. &#8226; When requested, serve as a resource person to the General Education Intervention Team and/or IEP Team(s). &#8226; Participate in in-service training programs as required and approved. &#8226; Maintain safe working environment and encourage colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school-related duties. &#8226; Assist as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the IEP. &#8226; Special transportation duties may be assigned. &#8226; Some lifting may be required. &#8226; Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient effective functioning of the work unit.
